FHSAA 4A District Recaps: Harrison Drops 14:55 at PVHS


We're recapping the highlights from all 64 district meets across the state this week. Here's the rundown for all 16 districts in class 4A. 

FHSAA 4A District 1

  • Girls Individual Champion: Lillian Holtery (Niceville HS)
  • Boys Individual Champion: Nathan Reffitt (Chiles HS)
  • Girls Team Champion: Niceville HS
  • Boys Team Champion: Chiles HS
  • Recap: The Chiles boys put on a show at their district meet with four guys sub 17 minutes with a 43 second 1-5 split to win the meet with a low score of 17 points, just shy of sweeping the whole meet. The Niceville girls were in a similar boat winning the meet with 19 points, Kelly Davis of Chiles HS interrupting their potential sweep with her 19:36 second place PR. 

FHSAA 4A District 2

  • Recap: Early this fall we saw Rheinhardt Harrison run down Florida's high school mile record with his 4:01 back in August. Well, Harrison is back to racing hard in cross country and his new 14:55 PR is the first sub 15 Florida has seen since Charles Hicks back in 2018. His teammate Anderson Ball cruised to a 15:57 to help lead the Nease team to an overall district title. On the girls side Naila Etique took the individual title with her strong 19:11 finish. It was the Mandarin HS girls who stole the show when it came to the team win. The Mustangs put their five in the top 7 -- all sub 20:50 for a 22 point win over Nease.

FHSAA 4A District 3

  • Girls Individual Champion: Elizabeth Iliff
  • Boys Individual Champion: Jahari White (Bartram Trail)
  • Girls Team Champion: Fleming Island HS
  • Boys Team Champion: Bartram Trail
  • Recap: Seniors Jahari White and Kiran Jaishankar (Buchholz) battled for the top spot at the 4A district 3 meet. White took the win with a 16:22 with Jaishnkar cruising behind in 16:30. White along with his teammate Roger Arias led the Bartram Trail boys team to a 40 point team win -- one point over Creekside's strong 5 second team average -- talk about pack running! On the girls side, Elizabeth Illiff took the overall district title with her 19:01 performance. Fleming Island packed up taking the next three places to help lead their team to win the team title over Creekside. 

FHSAA 4A District 4

  • Girls Individual Champion: Olivia Niewald (Spruce Creek HS)
  • Boys Individual Champion: Ashton Deriso (Ocala Forest HS)
  • Girls Team Champion: Spruce Creek HS
  • Boys Team Champion: Orange City University HS
  • Recap: Senior Ashton Deriso took home his first district title with his 16:46 performance over Orange City Univeristy's Royce Eggert. Eggert led his boys team to a team title with his 17:07 run as a sophomore this season. On the girls side, it was a battle between Spruce Creek sophomore Olivia Niewald and Flagler Palm Coast junior Jada Williams and Spruce Creek senior  Rachel Wheatley. Niewald took the win with a 19:24 performance, Williams following behind in 19:35, and Wheatley short after with 19:37. With Niewald and Wheatley leading the way, Spruce Creek brought home the girls district title with a 29 point win over Flagler Palm Coast's 47. 

FHSAA 4A District 5

  • Girls Individual Champion: Mya Bodrato (Lake Mary HS)
  • Boys Individual Champion: Samuel Austin (Oveido HS)
  • Girls Team Champion: Lake Mary HS
  • Boys Team Champion: Hagerty HS
  • Recap: University Florida commit Samuel Austin took the 4A District 5 field by storm with his new 16:12 PR to win his first ever cross country district title. Hagerty sophomore Brayden Seymour led the wolf pack to a team championship with his 16:23 PR for a 37 team point win over Lake Mary's 49. On the girls side, Mya Bodrato ran a 19:23 to lead her team to a district championship trophy -- the Lake Mary Rams put their top five in the top seven for a 21 point win over Oviedo's 57. 

FHSAA 4A District 6

  • Girls Individual Champion: Ella Klyce (West Orange HS)
  • Boys Individual Champion: Kai Komatsu (Olympia HS)
  • Girls Team Champion: West Orange HS
  • Boys Team Champion: Olympia HS
  • Recap: Olympia senior Kai Komatsu took the boys district championship title with a 16:14 performance -- just three seconds shy of outrunning his PR of 16:11 that he ran earlier this season. Komatsu's win led to a team title for Olympia with 24 points over second place individual Jake Baldauf and his West Orange squad. On the girls side, West Orange freshman Ella Klyce took home her first district title with a 19:28 performance over Olympia's Abigail Misch. Klyce along with her teammate Ava Baldauf lead the West Orange Warriors to a 45 point team win over Windermere High School. 

FHSAA 4A District 7

  • Girls Individual Champion: Emma Noel (Winter Park HS)
  • Boys Individual Champion: Derek Romich (Winter Park HS)
  • Girls Team Champion: Winter Park HS
  • Boys Team Champion: Timber Creek HS
  • Recap: 4A District 7 brought a Winter Park HS individual sweep with junior Derek Romich and senior Emma Noel capturing district titles with their 17:03 and 19:17 performances. On the boys side, Timber Creek had a strong pack with a 46 second 1-5 split that ultimately led to their district championship win with 28 points over Winter Park's 39. The Winter Park ladies were able to put their top four in the top five to come out on top with 25 points over Timber Creek's 34. 

FHSAA 4A District 8

  • Girls Individual Champion: Megan Dolan (Boone HS)
  • Boys Individual Champion: Ilyas Semlali (Dr. Phillips HS)
  • Girls Team Champion: Dr. Phillips HS
  • Boys Team Champion: Dr. Phillips HS
  • Recap: Dr. Phillips put on a show at the 4A District 8 meet, sweeping both the boys and girls team championships in a dominating fashion. On the boys side, Ilyas Semlai took the win with a 16:30 performance with his teammates Joel McConnell and Adam Berriz following behind with sub 17-minute performances to lead the Dr. Phillips team to an 18 point win over Boone HS. Boone sophomore Megan Dolan out kicked Jasmine Little and Hannah Claytor of Dr. Phillips with her 19:23 winning performance, but Dr. Phillips's 1:47 1-5 split was tough to beat with their 25 point win over Boone. 

FHSAA 4A District 9

  • Girls Individual Champion: Gabriella Macedo (Celebration HS)
  • Boys Individual Champion: Jared Falchook (Celebration HS)
  • Girls Team Champion: Celebration HS
  • Boys Team Champion: Celebration HS
  • Recap: De Ja Vu is one way to describe the 4A District 9 boys and girls races. Both races featured a strong Celebration duo taking first and second place individually, along with the team title. On the boys side, Jared Falchook and Cooper James led the meet with their 17:04 and 17:07 finishes to help Celebration win over St. Cloud with 39 points. The girls race was very similar with Celebration teammates Gabriella Macedo and Catalina Edwards taking first and second with 20:37 and 20:59 performances, respectively. The Celebration ladies took the team win over St. Cloud with 28 points. 

FHSAA 4A District 10

  • Girls Individual Champion: Jaade McBride (George Jenkins HS)
  • Boys Individual Champion: Haydon Patrick (Durant HS) 
  • Girls Team Champion: George Jenkins HS
  • Boys Team Champion: Durant HS 
  • Recap: The 4A district 10 meet featured a strong 1-5 sweep in the girls race from George Jenkins. Freshman Jaade McBride led the way for the George Jenkins ladies with her 20:03 win with Payton Rusk, Kaleigh Maliek, Grace boatright, Sage Koury, and Jaa'Ln McBride taking the next consecutive five places. On the boys side, Haydon Patrick led the individual race with a 17:58 performance with Adnrew Guerrero taking second for George Jenkins with an 18:09 run. Patrick led the Durant boys to a district team title over Winter Haven with a strong 19 points. 

FHSAA 4A District 11

  • Girls Individual Champion: Jacquelyn Abanses (George M. Steinbrenner HS)
  • Boys Individual Champion: Jared Hammill (Wharton HS)
  • Girls Team Champion: George M. Steinbrenner HS
  • Boys Team Champion: George M. Steinbrenner HS
  • Recap: The 4A District 11 meet featured a Steinbrenner team sweep in both the girls and boys races last week. Jacquelyn Abanses won the individual girls district title, cruising to a 19:05 run over Wharton junior Brooke Reif's 19:13 performance. The boys race featured a strong race between Wharton senior Jared Hammill and Alonso junior Raekwon Hopkins and Steinbrenner senior Ethan Bhatt. Hammill came out on top with a 16:37 run, but Bhatt's performance sealed the deal for Steinbrenner's team title over Wharton HS. 

FHSAA 4A District 12

  • Girls Individual Champion: Keleigh Scallon (Newsome HS)
  • Boys Individual Champion: Seth Martinez (Lennard HS)
  • Girls Team Champion: HB Plant HS 
  • Boys Team Champion: Newsome HS 
  • Recap: Lennard senior Seth Martinez led the boys race at the 4A District 12 meet with a strong 16:17 performance ahead of HB Plant junior Ryan Maney's 16:44. Jason Swartzlander and Wade LaRue of Newsome HS finished third and fourth and led the Wolves to a team district title with 37 points over HB Plant's 38. The girls race featured a win from University of Florida commit Keleigh Scallon who ran a time of 18:30. Mary Ellen Eudaly led the HB Plant ladies with a 19:20 second place finish and it seemed to be a Newsome, HB Plant, Newsome, HB Plant order for the rest of the top 10. HB plant was able to put in their third through fifth runners ahead of Newsome's fourth to secure a district title with 27 points over Newsome's close 29 points. 

FHSAA 4A District 13

  • Girls Individual Champion: Grace Marston (Lakewood Ranch HS)
  • Boys Individual Champion: Orlando Cicilioni (Sarasota HS)
  • Girls Team Champion: Sarasota HS
  • Boys Team Champion: Sarasota HS
  • Recap: There was a 'Sota Sweep at the 4A District 13 meet with Sarasota boys and girls brining home the team trophies. The boys race featured Sarasota duo Orlando Cicilioni and Robert Stiff taking first and second place with 16:12 and 16:42 performances, leading the Sailors to a 19 point team win over Sarasota Riverview's 59. The girls race was a team battle with Lakewood Ranch duo Grace Marston and Aurora Melzer capturing first and second place with 19:02 and 19:08 performances. Marissa Kempf and Kasumi Wade of Sarasota followed behind for third and fourth places. Ultimately, the team title came down to one point and Sarasota's fourth and fifth runners secured the 30 point win for the Sailors over Lakewood Ranch's strong 31. 

FHSAA 4A District 14

  • Girls Individual Champion: Julianna Courville (Venice HS)
  • Boys Individual Champion: Alberto Teijelo (Venice HS) 
  • Girls Team Champion: Gulf Coast HS 
  • Boys Team Champion: North Port HS
  • Recap: The 4A District 14 meet featured strong individual performances out of Venice HS. Julianna Courville and Alberto Teijelo both brought home individual district titles for Venice with their 19:50 and 15:55 wins. Zachary Rathburn finished third overall in the boys race with a 16:37 run that led the North Port boys team to a district title with 37 points over Gulf Coast's 39. On the girls side, Nicole Zani finished fourth overall with a 20:57 which put Gulf Coast in a strong position to take the team win one point over Venice HS with 34 points. 
  • Girls Individual Champion: Isabella Babilonia (Viera HS)
  • Boys Individual Champion: Michael Toppi (Viera HS)
  • Girls Team Champion: Viera HS
  • Boys Team Champion: Viera HS 
  • Recap: It was the Viera HS show at the 4A District 15 meet as the Hawks swept both individual and team titles. The boys race featured a 1-4 sweep for Viera with Michael Toppi producing a strong 15:34 win. The girls race was very similar with UCF commit Isabella Babilonia and fellow Viera senior Alexa Baker packing a 1-2 punch with 18:02 and 20:08 performances. Caroline Bergstrong of Melbourne HS separated the Viera pack with her third place finish, but the Hawks came out on top with 18 points. 
  • Girls Individual Champion: Penelope Sosa (Miami Coral Park HS)
  • Boys Individual Champion: Christian Ivonnet (Christopher Columbus HS)
  • Girls Team Champion: Our Lady of Lourdes 
  • Boys Team Champion: Christopher Columbus HS 
  • Recap: The 4A District 16 meet featured two wins from strong Miami private school powerhouses. On the boys side, Christopher Columbus swept the team championship with Christian Ivonnet leading the way with his 16:39 win and Malcolm Brown, Alvaro Canarte, Marcus Mata, and Nicholas Ivonnet all finishing sub 17:03. Miami Coral Park junior Penelope Sosa took the individual girls district title with her 20:26 win over Braddock freshman Annabella Cardona's 20:52. Pack running secured Lourdes Academy's district title win with 54 seconds separating their number one runner, Ana Romeau, and their number five runner, Ashley Williams. St. Thomas Aquinas, led by Lindsey Duffner and Haley McCloskey, finished second.
