Rheinhardt Harrison Attempting To Be Youngest Sub 4 American

WATCH Rheinhardt Harrison's Sub 4 Attempt LIVE!

Nease junior Rheinhardt Harrison will be making a sub 4 minute mile attempt on Friday evening at Satellite High School in Satellite Beach, Florida. The race is set to start between 7:00-7:15 PM ET in the midst of the Set Goals Not Limits Distance Showcase.

MileSplit.com will be exclusively live-streaming the race along with race replay as Rheinhardt Harrison attempts to become the youngest American high school athlete to break 4 minutes, which the record is currently held by Jim Ryun. Ryun, as a 17-year-old high school junior at Wichita East in Kansas, broke four minutes for the first time back in 1964 in 3:59 before breaking four minutes on five more occasions working his time down to 3:55.

Harrison just turned 17 last month in February and has a matter of weeks remaining in order to break four minutes in the mile at a younger age by the days than Jim Ryun did nearly six decades ago.

In prep of Harrison's race and a foreshadow of his great level of fitness, check out a recent workout video above from Rheinhardt's youtube channel which saw him do three one-mile repeats dropping the time on each repeat to 4:18, 4:14, and 4:07 with 1200 meters jog rest (roughly six to seven minutes of active recovery) in between repeat.

He followed up the mile repeats with 400-meter repeats hitting 54 seconds on all three repeats that with an 800-meter jog rest in between each for roughly four to five minutes of active rest.

In his last race on the very same track which he will be competing on this Saturday, Harrison ran a 1:51.48 personal best at the Bolles Bulldog Classic on March 5th.

As a high school sophomore, Harrison ran a 4:01.34 at the Music City Distance Carnival in Nashville on August 15th for his current personal best in the event. Since that race, Harrison has run 4:02, 4:05, and 4:05 in late summer and early fall track races at the mile distance for a model of consistency.

Make sure to tune in on Friday night for the live stream in this latest sub 4 attempt by a high school distance star. The current weather forecast for the immediate area in Satellite Beach during race time is temperatures in the low 70's, no precipitation, and 12 MPH winds..
