Jerry Philippe Wind Legal US No. 1 13.62 In 110 Hurdles!

Dillard senior Jerry Philippe got the perfect wind to run the perfect time in the 110 meter hurdles at the BCAA Championships on Friday evening.

Philippe had run an insanely fast, but severely wind-aided time of 13.42 earlier in the season at the Louie Bing Classic. On Friday against a stout field against the best hurdlers of Broward County, Philippe got a wind reading of +2.0, which is the cut-off for a wind-legal time, and rolled to the nation's fastest time in a 13.62 clocking.

His start was nothing spectacular and was still close to the rest of the field after hurdle set No. 2. It was not until hurdle sets No. 3 and No. 4 where he really began to separate and build his lead from there with St. Thomas Aquinas junior Claude Campbell as the closest finisher and runner-up at 14.28.

The irony is that it was his first county championship ever as a senior despite being currently the nation's best. Albeit, last year's county meet was cancelled due to Covid. Philippe now has the top wind-legal time in the country by several tenths of a second over his toughest challenger in Leonard Mustari (13.96 wind-legal season-best).

The performance is the fourth fastest wind-legal time recorded since 2000 by any high school hurdler from the state of Florida.
