FHSAA 1A Boys 1600m Run
Out of Door Academy's Tristan McWilliam thrived in the underdog role all championship season. At the district meet, Mateo Luna was the favorite. McWilliam won the 1600 meter race in 4:26.
At the regional meet, Braxton Legg was the favorite. McWilliam won the 1600 meter race in 4:22.
At the state meet, Caden Montini was the favorite. McWilliam won the 1600 meter race in 4:17. In winning, McWilliam not only dropped a 3 second PR but became the first ever state track & field champion for the Out of Door Academy program.
It was kind of surprising to not see Montini with a 4:13 PR and Luna with a 4:16 PR be in the mix for the win at the end, but might have run out of gas from hard legs in the 4x800 meter relay earlier. Cambridge Christian junior Braxton Legg was the only one that went with McWilliam on the last lap, but was held off to take second place in 4:18.
