MINNEAPOLIS - Senior Yvana Hepburn and sophomore David Aristil each took home the 60-meter hurdles title on the second day of competition Saturday at the Minnesota Invitational held at the University of Minnesota Fieldhouse.

Aristil finished first in the hurdles with a time of 8.06 seconds, just .02 off his mark from a week ago, while Hepburn placed first overall in the event with a time of 8.54 seconds, coming up .14 seconds short of her all-time best and her school record.

USF also earned a sweep in both 200 meter events Saturday.

Freshman Dariel Jackson had the best time on the day in the 200 meters, as she ran a 25.49 to come in just under the BIG EAST qualifying time of 25.50. She was joined by sophomore Shaniel Chambers, who posted herself a qualifying time in the 800 meters by running a 2:16.11, good enough to put her in fifth at the meet.

Senior Greg Fontus proved strong in the 200 as well, as he came in first in the event after posting a time of 22.01 in the first section. The 200 on both sides did not feature a preliminary and final.

Fontus set a personal best again in the 60 meters after doing so last week, as he finished second, but first among collegiate athletes, by running a 6.88. Not far behind, senior Armante Marshall ran a 6.98, just off his 6.96 he had last week at the Akron Quad.

After not competing last week in USF's first meet for the men, senior Michael Kursteiner went out and quickly elevated himself past a BIG EAST mark in the high jump, as he was able to get over the 6-8.25 height in his first action of the 2009-10 season.

A pair of throwers also had solid outings for the Bulls, as sophomores Lauren Noe and Atasha Warren finished second and fourth, respectively, in the weight throw. Noe launched a throw of 57-10.5, surpassing her personal best, while Warren also came up just short of her PR with a distance of 52-6.75.

Warren, though, did set a PR in the shot put, where she earned a tie for first with Northern Iowa's Tracy Harms with a heave of 46-0.

Senior Grant Scelzi had a solid fourth-place showing in the pole vault, as he went over the 16-1.75 height. Freshmen Mike Vani and Wyatt Metzger each posted indoor PRs by hitting the 15-1.75 mark, putting them in a tie for eighth.

Freshman Neamen Wise ended the day third in the heptathlon with 5,142 points after holding down first heading into the day. Wise placed first in the 60 hurdles in 8.35 seconds, while also taking fourth in the pole vault by clearing 12-10.25. Wise also ran a 3:02:12 in the 1,000 meters to complete his point total.

On the weekend, Wise won the 60 meters, the long jump and the 60 meter hurdles during the heptathlon.

Freshman Courtney Anderson increased her personal best in the high jump, clearing the 5-7 mark that put her in a tie for second overall at the meet. She now sits alone in fifth place in the indoor all-time record book with that height.

Sophomore Nicole Rozario came close but ultimately fell a little more than a second short of the qualifying time in the mile, where she ran a 5:09.70.

Freshman Miriam Skipper increased her personal best in the long jump, as she launched herself 17-2.25 feet. Junior MaShonda Rayner and freshman Tralanda Todd did the same, as Rayner's distance of 16-1.5 was her best on the season, while Todd's mark of 15-7.5 improved her best.

In the triple jump, junior Samantha Shade placed sixth after posting a mark of 36-4.75

Jackson also qualified for the finals in the 60 meters, where she eventually posted a time of 7.86. Freshman Ena Johnson also placed fifth in the finals of the 60 hurdles after crossing the line with a time of 9.26.

Aristil and freshman Pascal Orelus both ran the 400, with Aristil taking sixth in 50.09, while Orelus was one spot behind him in 50.24. On the women's side, freshman Rebecca James posted her best time of the year in the 400, running a 59.71.

In the 800, senior Mikail Ebanks completed the race in 1:56.36, putting him one second short of a BIG EAST time. Also coming up a second short was sophomore Phillip Wise in the mile, as he ran a time of 4:20.66, needing to surpass the 4:19.54 time to get to the BIG EAST Championships.

The quartet of Orelus, Ebanks, senior Josh Wimbley and sophomore Reshaw Exilien finished third in the 4x400 relay after coming in with a time of 3:20.93.

The women's team will be back on the road next week as the Bulls fly to Beantown to compete in the Reebok Invitational in Boston.
