Bertelsen Del Solar captures 800m at RunningLane

Florida was well represented on Friday in the championship races at the RunningLane Championships in Huntsville, AL. Aurora Bertelsen del Solar of IMG took the girls' 800m Championship in 2:06.16. The IMG junior took the lead immediately from the break and led the entire race, holding off Mia Perez of Texas. Bertelsen Del Solar split 62.60 and 64.20.

Two other Florida girls were in the 800m championship race. Bertelsen Del Solar's teammate, junior Mackenzie Winning was third in 2:07.95 and Creekside's Sarah Rose was 9th with a 2:10.84.

In the girls' 3200m championship, Margaret Bartlow of North Bay Haven took the race out and led Gabbie Bishop of Arkansas until the last 300m of the race.  The two girls had broken away from the pack with Bartlow setting the pace.  Bishop won in 10:07.97, and Bartlow was second in 10:13.56. The FSU commits time is a Florida No. 4 all-time. Two other girls, junior Jazlyn Forbes of Oasis and Tessa Massa of Bishop Kenny, finished in 8th and 9th.  Forbes ran 10:30.36 and Massa 10:30.83.

In the boys' 3200m championship race, So. Andrew Beroset ran a state-leading 8:49.28 in a packed field that saw 18 boys run sub-9:00, with six running sub-8:50.  Beroset was the top underclassman in a field that saw just .029 spread between the top six. The winner was Matthew Shelly of Arkansas in 8:47.02.

Alejandro de Bastos of Pembroke Pines Charter and Kai Martin of Cambridge (Christian) School ran 9th and 11th in the boys' 800m championship race. De Bastos, headed to FSU, was 9th in 1:51.87, and Martin, who has committed to the University of Alabama, was  11th in 1:53.68.
