Florida was well represented at the Brooks XC South Championships, with Sr. Evan Spreitzer of Holy Trinity winning and So. Madison Muller of Sarasota Riverview placing 2nd in the Championship races. In the Freshman/Sophomore Boys race, Fort Myers' Reed Hagen capped off an excellent freshman year with a win.

Evan Spreitzer won the championship Boys' Race in 14:52.13. The Furman commit led most of the race and held on with a strong finish to move on to the Brooks XC National Championships on December 13th in San Diego on the Balboa Park course. Joining Spreitzer will be Spanish River senior, Preston Sangely, who was ninth on Saturday in 15:02.48, and Belen Jesuit Jr. Marcelo Mantecon, who received a Golden Ticket invitation. Only 50 boys and girls will race, with the top 10 finishers from the four regionals and 10 Golden Ticket invitations.


Evan Spreitzer is out front early with the lead group. Preston Sangely is on the left in the back of the lead group.

Madison Muller of Sarasota Riverview was runner-up in the Girls' Championship race with a 17:05.44, claiming her spot in the National Championship. Bursting onto the National scene, Muller is the FHSAA 4A State Champion and has had a fantastic sophomore season racing 11 times, with seven firsts, 2 seconds, and a 6th place to her credit.

Fort Myers' Fr. Reed Hagen won the freshman/Sophomore Boys race with a time of 16:06.22. Hagen was out front the entire race. Hagen was the leading freshman boy in the Florida rankings this season. He was 17th in the FHSAA 3A boys race.
