Florida Indoor High School Championships Preview

The Florida Indoor High School Championships this Saturday are shaping up to be one of the most talent-packed meets of the indoor season. There are multiple state leaders and top-10 nationally ranked athletes getting ready to compete in the fourth Indoor Championship at the Alachua County Sport & Events Center in Gainesville. Here are just a few of the events to watch:

Girls' Events

The girls' 60m  is stacked with some of Florida's elite talent. Lee Peters (Foundation Academy) enters as the state leader at 7.43, currently ranked No. 15 nationally, and will face stiff competition from Dasia Reed (Montverde Academy) and Jewel Domingue (American Heritage(Fast Lane TC), both proven championship performers. Add in Vanessa Waite (Power House Athletics), and the final could come down to hundredths.

Waite doubles back as the top seed in the girls' 200m, owning Florida's fastest time this season at 23.87. Montverde Academy looms large with Reed, Adriana Rodriguez, and Nakira Hudson, making the 400m a potential team showcase, as well as an individual battle.

In the girls' 400m, Montverde's dominance continues. Hudson and Rodriguez enter nearly identical entry times and are both nationally ranked, setting up one of the meet's most anticipated head-to-head races.

The girls' 3,000m  belongs to Madison Muller (Sarasota Riverview). Running unattached, she is atop the Florida rankings and is currently ranked US No. 7 with a 9:42.41.

Nia Armstrong (VAST Track & Field) headlines the 60m hurdles as Florida's No. 1-ranked girl and is sixth nationally, with an 8.40.

In the field events, Sienna Starks (Bolles)and Madeline Entwistle (IMG) lead the girls' pole vault, while Jewel Domingue (American Heritage) doubles as the state leader in the girls' long jump, where her 6.15m Florida best ranks seventh nationally. The throws are anchored by J'Nia Simpson (Tampa Catholic) (Tampa Trailblazers), Florida's top shot putter and US No. 4.

The boy's 200m features Miles Outerbridge (Montverde Academy), Florida's No. 3 performer, in a field that includes Zamarii Sanders (Cardinal Newman) and Todd Daniels (Lake Wales).

The 800m is headlined by David Probola (Villages), Florida's top-ranked indoor 800m runner and US No. 6, while the 3,000m could be one of the best distance races of the meet. Axel Sallault (East Ridge), Evan Spreitzer (Holy Trinity), and Mark Meister (Cambridge (Christian) School) all rank in the national top 10.

In the jumps and pole vault, Jeremiah Lysius (Somerset Academy Canyons(Fast Lane TC) leads the high jump, while Jaxon Jerabek (IMG Elite) enters the pole vault as not only Florida's best, but the No. 1-ranked vaulter in the entire country.
