More School Records Fall
Sophomore David Aristil and the men's 4x100 relay broke school records at the BIG EAST Championships two weeks ago, bringing the total to 12 in terms of the number of times a school record was broken during the outdoor season.

Aristil ran 50.42 to break the old mark of 50.50 set by Kemel Thompson in 1996, while the 4x100 relay went 40.75 to just edge out the 40.79 the Bulls ran earlier in the season. The 4x100 set the school record for the second time this season, as has sophomores Casey Wagner in the javelin and Nicole Rozario in the 3,000 steeplechase. Sophomore Jared Thomas set the discus record three separate times this year.

The other three school records to go include Aristil's 400 hurdles mark, sophomore Allie Prendergast in the 3,000 meters and the men's 4x400 relay.

Carela Wins 5,000 Meter Title at Dominican Republic Championships
Junior Pedro Carela won the 5,000 meters title at the Dominican Republic Track and Field National Championships May 1, as more than 600 athletes competed at the 25th annual championships.

Carela, whose parents were married in the Dominican Republic, ran a time of 15:31.95 to capture the title. Click here to read more about his win.

Last Time Out For the Bulls
The women's team had a successful couple of days at the BIG EAST Championships April 30-May 2 in Cincinnati, as the Bulls placed seventh with 59 points, the highest finish and the most points the women's team has posted in five years in the BIG EAST.

The men finished eighth with 47 points, but the highlight came on the last day of competition, when sophomore David Aristil captured the 400 hurdles title in a school record 50.42, breaking the old mark of 50.50 set by Kemel Thompson in 1996. USF has now won the 400 hurdles title three years in a row after Glenn Fowler took home the top honor in 2008 and '09.

USF's other BIG EAST champion was junior Dana Webb, who won the pole vault title May 1 during the first full day of competition. She helped the Bulls make it a sweep in the women's pole vault after junior Stephanie Duffy won the indoor title.

Also earning All-BIG EAST honors for finishing in the top 3 and earning a spot on the podium were senior Yvana Hepburn, who finished second in the 100 hurdles, along with Duffy, senior Sean Young (pole vault), junior MaShonda Rayner (triple jump), freshman Monique Williams (long jump) and the men's 4x100, who all took third in their respective events. USF's eight All-BIG EAST honors combined ties the 2008 team for the most in five years in the BIG EAST.
