- Sophomore David Aristil of the University of South Florida track and field team advanced to the semi-final of the 400 hurdles Thursday at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Drake Stadium.

Aristil took fourth in the first of three heats on the day, running a time of 50.79 to finish with the seventh-fastest time overall among the 21 competitors in the event.

The 2010 All-American will continue his outstanding 2010 season Friday when he runs in the semi-final of the 400 hurdles at 8:45 EST. ESPN will broadcast the Outdoor Championships from 8-10 p.m. Friday.

The top 4 finishers in each heat plus the next four best times qualified for the semi-final. Bershawn Jackson ran the fastest time of the day in 49.58.

Aristil wrapped up his 2010 collegiate season at the NCAA Championships, placing fifth in the final of the 400 hurdles with a time of 51.05. He became USF's fifth-different All-American for the men's team since the track and field program was started in 1991.

The school record holder, Aristil won the 2010 BIG EAST title in the 400 hurdles in 50.42, surpassing USF Olympian Kemel Thompson's previous school record of 50.50. He later upped the school record to 50.13 in the semi-final of the NCAA Championships.

In addition, former USF standout and 2008 Olympian Damu Cherry will run in the first heat of the 100 hurdles at 5:45 EST.

The USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships is the third event of the 2010 USATF Outdoor Visa Championship Series.
