Boys 2A Districts Highlights
Cardinal Newman senior Zamarii Sanders made a strong statement at districts, reinforcing his status as the defending 2A state champion in both sprints. Sanders swept the 100m (10.46) and 200m (20.92) titles at the 2A District 2 meet, maintaining his position as the state leader.
The only faster mark recorded across all 2A district meets came from Palatka's Kedric Wright Jr., who clocked a wind-aided 10.3 in District 4. Wright showcased his versatility with a dominant triple: 100m (10.31w), 200m (21.08), and 400m (47.83), while also contributing to Palatka's winning 4x100 relay. He remains the state leader in the 400m with a 46.76 and will be a major contender moving forward. Eastside's Zachary Reed pushed Wright in the 100m, finishing close behind in 10.41w.
Distance standout David Probola (The Villages) delivered one of the most impressive all-around performances of the meet series at District 5. The 2A leader in the 800m (1:51.27) secured wins in the 800m (1:58.50) and 1600m (4:31.90), added a runner-up finish in the 400m (49.6), and anchored the winning 4x400 relay.
In District 8, defending 2A 800m state champion Joe Licata (Cardinal Newman) treated the meet as a controlled, workout, effort, winning the 800m in 1:54.34 while also contributing to victories in both the 4x400 and 4x800 relays.
One notable absence came from Montverde's Will Moss, the 2A cross country state champion and mile leader (4:19.66), who did not contest the 1600m at District 6. In his absence, Probola now holds the top 1600m mark in 2A at 4:20.68. Gulliver Prep's Adrian Iziliaev (4:20.88 season best) claimed the District 16 title in 4:33.55 and also contributed to winning the 4x400 and 4x800 relays. Cocoa Beach's Rylan Reyes added to the depth with a district-leading 4:21.29 victory in District 7, the fastest 1600m time run at districts.
Raines junior Iason Williams continued his dominance in the hurdles, winning both the 110mH (14.66) and 400mH (55.91) at District 2. He remains the 2A state leader in both events. Miami Jackson senior Antanious McClendon emerged as a key challenger, posting the fastest district time in the 110mH with a 14.43 win in District 15.
In the field, Pensacola's junior Khylen Eccles turned heads with a triple victory in District 1, winning the high jump (1.87m), long jump (6.84m), and triple jump (13.61m). Eccles leads the state in the high jump with a 2.07m clearance.
Montverde junior Samuel Johnson, the 2A state leader in both the long jump and the triple jump, captured the District 6 triple jump title (15.18m) and placed second in the long jump (6.74m). Meanwhile, Calvary Christian's Liam Marley dominated District 13 throws, sweeping the shot put (16.28m) and discus (49.59m) as the state leader in both events.
On the relay side, Aubrey Rogers, owners of the 2A state-leading 4x800 time (7:57.99), comfortably advanced from District 12 with an 8:42.40 win. However, serious competition looms after Andrew Jackson (8:00.21) and Bishop Kenny (8:00.41) both dipped near sub-8:00 territory in District 3, setting up a compelling battle.
