Girls 2A Districts Highlights
With no returning 2A State champions in the sprints, the 2A girls' 100m and 200m titles are wide open, and the district round only added intrigue.
Andrew Jackson junior Danielle Hogans leads the state in the 100m (11.52) and delivered a dominant triple at District 3, winning the 100m (12.06), 200m (24.09), and 400m (55.51), while also running on the winning 4x400 relay. She remains a central figure in both sprint events.
Defending 100m state champion E'tesia Forbes (Glades Central) is right behind her, currently ranked No. 2 in the 100m (11.65). The sophomore won the District 8 title in 11.78 and added a strong showing in the long jump, placing second (5.78m), which moves her to No. 3 in the rankings.
Montverde's Dasia Reed, previously ranked No. 3 in the 100m (11.66) and No. 1 in the 200m (23.56), did not compete at districts, adding another layer of uncertainty to the sprint picture. Meanwhile, American Heritage freshman Jewel Domingue continues to emerge as a multi-event threat, finishing second in both the 100m (11.98) and 200m (24.24) at District 8, while winning the long jump (5.93m) and triple jump (11.70m).
In the 200m, four athletes have dipped under 24 seconds this season, including Hogans (23.71), Forbes (23.96), and Montverde senior Adriana Rodriguez (23.98). Rodriguez backed up her ranking with District 6 wins in the 200m (24.20) and 400m (53.91), where she leads 2A and ranks No. 2 overall in Florida.
Rodriguez will face strong competition in the 400m from her teammate Nakira Hudson, the defending state champion. Hudson, who ran 54.48 to win last year, has already clocked 53.91 this season in her District 6 win.
In the hurdles, Carrollton's Arianna Garcia is positioned for another sweep. The defending champion in both hurdle events, Garcia leads 2A in the 100mH (13.95) and sits No. 2 in the 400mH (1:02.39). She won both events at District 15 (14.09, 1:02.85) and ran on the winning 4x400 relay. Montverde's Jizelle Holland adds depth after taking over the 400mH state lead with a 1:01.16 win at District 6.
The distance events are set for new champions across the board. In the 800m, three athletes have broken 2:15 this season: Carrollton's Gabriella Socarras (2:11.22), Montverde eighth-grader Angelica Wolfe (2:11.37), and Carrollton's Daniela Hernandez (2:12.06). Socarras and Wolfe won their respective districts, while Hernandez finished second, all advancing to regionals.
In the 1600m, Bolles freshman Sofie Stam is the only runner under five minutes this season (4:58.45), though she placed third at District 3 (5:16.26). Episcopal sophomore Kate Brice (5:00.19) and Hernandez (5:01.19) are close behind, and both won district titles, setting up a strong regional showdown.
The 3200m may be the deepest event in 2A. The top five-ranked athletes-Stella Krueger, Sofie Stam, Kate Brice, Jillian Jakab, and Selah Vignier, all posted their best times at the FSU Relays. Vignier claimed the District 7 title (11:09.20), while the other four all advanced from District 3, setting up a highly anticipated Region 1 matchup that could preview the state final.
