Octavious Freeman: Injury Update

Lake Wales senior Octavious Freeman came out of the 2A District 8 meet with two wins and a nagging injury. Her dad and coach, Stanley Smith, says the injury occurred while she was stretching before the 200.

“She felt something pop and then she ran the 200. She didn’t tell anyone until afterwards.  It’s right up under the buttocks on the right leg.  It’s still real sore but I think in a couple of days it will be all right. I took her to a therapist last night (Sunday) and they just said it was overstretched, so it’s not as bad as I thought it was.”

Freeman has the speed to beat her opponents even if she’s not at full strength. She plans on running in the regional meet this weekend, and although Smith says his daughter knows her body the best, it will ultimately be his decision if she is a go.

“I’m going to evaluate it in the next couple days and if I think it is career threatening or something that might tear I’m not going to let her run. I’ll make that decision ultimately by Thursday.”
