Florida Athletes continue to Shine on Day 2 of the Under Armour Track & Field Nationals at IMG
Florida athletes continued to make their mark on Saturday during Day 2 of the Under Armour Track & Field Nationals at IMG Academy, producing multiple national titles, a pair of all-time state No. 1 performances in the multi events, and significant movement on Florida's all-time rankings list during an impressive Day 2 at the Under Armour Track & Field Nationals. With one day remaining, Florida athletes have already left a lasting mark on the new chaminship.
Sophomore Nia Armstrong of VAST Track and Field Club captured the Girls 100-Meter Hurdles Championship title, running a wind-legal 13.35 seconds (+0.7 m/s) to secure the national title.
Florida middle school runners dominated the Boys 800-Meter Run, with eighth-graders Ben Kimber and Dylan Mirro crossing the line together in 2:02.52.
Kimber, representing Alice B. Landrum Middle School, got the win, while Wind Runner's Mirro finished second in an impressive Florida sweep of the event.
Eighth-grader Ava Overton added another national title to Florida's haul, winning the Girls Middle School Shot Put with a throw of 46 feet, 2 3/4 inches (14.09m).
Senior J'Nia Simpson of Trailblazers Youth Athletic Club delivered one of the state's most significant performances of the day in the Girls Championship Discus Throw.
Simpson unleashed a winning throw of 170 feet, 9 inches (52.06m), moving to No. 2 all-time in Florida history. Only legendary St. Thomas Aquinas thrower Seilala Sua, who threw 186-3 (56.77m) at the 1996 U.S. Olympic Team Trials, remains ahead of Simpson on the state's all-time list.
IMG Elite senior Jaxon Jerabek continued his historic season in the Boys Championship Pole Vault, clearing a winning height of 18 feet, 2 3/4 inches (5.56m) to claim the national title.
The clearance improved upon his own Florida all-time record of 18-1 (5.51m), which he established at the New York Relays in April. The South Carolina transplant has now raised the state standard twice this season and remains the national leader in the event.
Jerabek's vault also elevated him to No. 8 in U.S. high school history, further cementing his status as one of the nation's premier pole vaulters.
Junior Maxwell Garcon of Soldier City soared to victory in the Boys Championship Long Jump, producing a winning mark of 25 feet, 0 1/2 inches (7.63m) with a legal +1.6 m/s wind reading. Florida No. 10 all-Time. Florida No. 5 for juniors.
Golden Elite Track junior Khylen Eccles cleared 6 feet, 8 1/4 inches (2.05m) to capture the Boys Championship High Jump title in a jump-off.
East Lake junior Hayden Higgins produced a breakthrough performance in the Girls Championship Heptathlon, scoring 5,291 points to win the national title.
Higgins closed the competition with a 2:18.77 effort in the 800 meters and improved significantly on her previous best of 5,095 points set at the 2025 New Balance Nationals Outdoors.
The performance moves Higgins to No. 2 all-time in Florida history and places her at U.S. No. 10 all-time in the event.
IMG Academy sophomore Winston Schroder delivered one of the premier performances in the nation this season, winning the Boys Championship Decathlon with 7,585 points.
Schroder's score ranks as the No. 1 performance in the United States this year, No. 6 all-time nationally, and establishes a new Florida all-time best in the decathlon.
Although he finished fourth overall, Spanish River senior Preston Sangel, running unattached, produced one of Florida's fastest 800-meter performances ever in the Boys Championship Premier 800-Meter Run. Competing unattached, Sangely clocked a state-leading 1:48.87, moving to No. 5 all-time in Florida history.
