Godby Boys, Pine Forest Girls Earn Spot At Nike Nationals

The Godby boys and Pine Forest girls won back to back team championships in 2A and 3A respectively, but their season hasn't stopped there. The track and field teams received some good news this week regarding the post season. Both squads earned an invitation to the prestigous Nike Nationals in Eugene, Oregon at the end of June.

The title is determined by the team's performance in nine of ten events and based on decathalon style scoring.

Godby will send seven athletes to Oregon. They are Kenny Young (100), Deuimy Duclos (800,1600), T.J. Davis (110 hurdles), Eddie Lloyd (pole vault), Brandon Hollifield (high jump), Quayshawn Smith (long jump), and Devin Screen (shot put and discus). The Cougars will not run the quarter mile.

Pine Forest will send seven athletes as well. Darroneisha Lott will double up in the 800 and 1600 while Mykela Gould will compete in the throws. Other athletes competing for the Eagles are Latorria Bell (100), Brittany Mays (400), Johna Whitaker (100 hurdles), Tkara Mullins (pole vault), and Zatavia Moorer. Pine Forest will opt out of high jump.

Godby Pine Forest are ranked number one in Florida and one and two respectively in the southeast region.
