How to Qualify

You may qualify through one of two ways....

Hit a Qualifying Standard - We will recognize ANY meet as a qualifier this year as long as they have a fully-automatic timing (professional service preferred), use Hytek or RaceTab software for meet management, and get meet results to flrunners.com in a timely fashion. This is different from past years where we only recognized certain meets as qualifiers.

Finish First at a Regional Championship - The meets that are recognized as regional championships have the added benefit that if you win the event at your middle school regional meet you automatically move on, regardless of if you hit the qualifying time/mark or not.

Regional Championships

FLYRA defines six regions for purposes of its regional championships: South, Southwest, East, West, North, and the Panhandle. We will recognize a meet in April in each region as the "championship" meet. This meet must be open to all middle school aged athletes and conduct the same events and schedule that we will at the state meet.

HOWEVER... under some circumstances, unfortunately, there may not be a regional championship in your area. We are totally dependent on hosts stepping up and putting in a bid to host. In some years we've had situations of a number of bids, while in others there has been no one stepping forward. It seems like this year there is a lack of regional meets. So we'll do the best we can and if you would like to host one let us know.

You Still Have to Register!

Just because you hit a qualifying standard or finish first in a regional meet does not mean you are entered. This just means you are qualified to enter. We will open registration later this month on the state championship meet page. And the athlete's coach or parent will need to enter them as an individual, club, or school. So don't forget! We have to do this so we know who to expect and to verify your entry since not everyone who qualifies will come.
