Hall, Sanders Anchor Relay Teams To Gold In Barcelona

 
Two incoming University of Florida freshman brough home gold in Barcelona at the IAAF World Junior Championships.  Class of 2012 stars Shayla Sanders (Boyd Anderson) and Arman Hall (St. Thomas Aquinas) anchored their respective relay squads to new world junior leading times and a spot on top of the podium.
 
Boyd Anderson graduate Shayla Sanders was joined by teammate Kali Davis-White in the semifinals as the U.S. cruised to a time of 43.95, the best out of any country in that round. For the finals,  however, Davis-White, the high school senior to be was bumped from the line up. Sanders represented the Sunshine state, anchoring the relay to a world junior leading time of 43.89. It was the fifth straight gold medal for the ladies in red, white and blue, and 12th out of 14 World Junior Championships.

Sunday afternoon Arman Hall, who graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas, and will be attending the University of Florida as well, picked up his second medal of the games. Hall finished second in the 400 behind the Dominican Republic standout Luguelin Santos in a new personal best time of 45.39. Hall then teamed up with three of the United States fastest quarter milers where he anchored the quartet with a 45.8 split, to a new world junior leading time of 3:03.99, and a gold medal.

“It’s great to finally get on the medal stand with a gold medal,” said Hall. “It’s a great feeling being around all of these talented guys. It was a lot of fun. I wish I could do this again soon. It was a great experience to come overseas again. Great environment, great experience, and great people – I loved it.”
