The Cocoa Beach boys cross country team just missed the top three in 2011. The squad finished 17 points behind Berkeley Prep to finish fourth. The Minutemen return five of their top seven runners from last year including senior Cory Sayyeau. Sayyeau was tenth with a time of 16:37.55 and is one of the top individual returners in 2A after thirteen of the top fifteen runners from last year have graduated. If Cocoa Beach is to make the podium 2012 will be their year. The top five are all seniors. Costa Stathis and Dillion Taylor who placed 32nd and 45th at state all have the potential to be top 25 runners. They have season best times of 16:32.47 and 16:46 for 2011 and are Cocoa Beach's number two and three runners. Tellie Galanapolis and Brandon Holst round out the top five.
On the track, Sayyeau has the fastest time for 3200 meters. He broke ten minutes going 9:59.36 at the FSU Relays. Dylan Taylor has gone 10:03 for 3200 meters at the Astronaut Invitational. All five of the top five have respectable 1600 meter times led by Costa Stathis' 4:24.31 set at the regional meet. Taylor, Holst, Sayyeau, and Galanopolis have all run under 4:52 in 2011.
This team is a close knit group of guys who have all been working together for the past four years. With so many seniors in 2A graduating and moving on the individual title and team titles are up for grabs. Sayyeau along with Michael Barr, Jims Thimogene, and Tim O'Laughlin all have a shot at the individual crown, while Cocoa Beach has a great shot to improve on their fourth place finish and make the podium.

"We have four strong runners and are hoping for someone to step up for that #5 slot. We need to create some more depth. Our school boundaries were cut this year, so that may affect our team size. At a public school, we get who we get in those boundaries and train accordingly.Team goals for this year are to finish in the top three at state again."
