Scouting Report: Circle Christian Boys

Circle Christian boys cross country team is looking to make the podium in 2012 after a fourth place finish in 2011. Holy Trinity looks to be the team to beat in 1A, but the Centaurions could sneak into second. Coach Tim Chapman says it is their largest team ever with a lot of new talent coming in and a very strong summer of training which involved a team trip to Beech Mountain for a week of bonding and training. The group is led by senior Jordan Foster. Foster finished 10th at the 1A Cross Country Finals in a personal best itme of 16:29.00. He also leads the list of returners in 1600 meter times with a 4:24.92 set at the 1A Region 2 meet. Behind him will be a very strong junior trio, who will make up the two thru four spots on this team. Josh Wainwright, Jefferey Henry, and Joseph Ault all have state meet experience. The group finished in a tight pack last year placing 56th, 61st, and 65th at state. Ault and Wainwright also teamed up as members of Circle Christian's winning 4x800 meter relay team. Senior Josh Lusk the other remaining returner will round out the top five. Coach Chapman says eighth grader Caleb Ramirez, senior Josh Dumbacher, and freshman Matt Lusk, who are all coming out for their first time, are pushing each other hard each practice for those final two spots.

The Centaurions participated in the Wickham Park Jamboree to gear up for the regular season. Jordan Foster finished in eighth with a time of 17:01. Waiwright was 15th in 17:34. Circle Christian is third according to the Preseason FACA Rankings behind Trinity Prep and Holy Trinity. If this team is able to stay healthy and they can get a great pack in the middle, look for Circle Christian to improve on last year's finish and be a threat at state.

Coach Chapman Says...

"Our goals this year are to grow together as a team in faith and challenge each other to be better each day, taking care of the details that make us successful. While some of the boys have dealt with illnesses and injuries at the end of summer and are not 100% yet, we are excited about Katie Caples this week, and looking forward to FLRunners. We want to push for a podium spot this year but will need to be healthy and have a lot of help from the back half."
