In Her Own Words: Bryce Seymour

Hey everyone! I hope you all enjoyed your holiday weekend last week. I attended a Labor Day Soccer tournament that my brother and his team were playing in. Although it was extremely hot and it seemed that each new game was a never ending endeavor. I enjoyed every minute of watching my little brother kick butt. Unfortunately his soccer season and my cross country season overlap and I don’t get to see many of his games and vise versa. So anytime I get to attend one of his games is an awesome experience. Gratefully, my brother’s team won the whole tournament. It was their first one so they are off to a great star

This week training went very well for the team and I. Monday we generally have practice at night to avoid the heat and go somewhere different. It also provides us the opportunity to find some hills. This past Monday Coach Getty came up with a new loop that incorporated many hills; well, manmade bridges that serve as hills to us Floridians. Not surprisingly, it was a very hard and quality run. Mother Nature has been adding some adventure to our runs as well. The team and I have been running into at least one snake a week during practice. Monday night we came across two. It is crazy. Luckily, they are usually non-venomous snakes.

On Saturday, my team competed at the Astronaut Invitational. The people from Astronaut always do a great job of hosting this meet and making sure everything runs smoothly. Although the course was a mud fest and a bit soggy, everyone who competed in the race did a great job. Personally, I am grateful to say I placed first. As a team all the girls did exceptional. We had four girls place into the top ten. Although, we had some key components of our team not race due to the ACT and other events, one runner on our team did great job of stepping up and being our number five runner. It was her first varsity race. We ended up placing second behind Merritt Island who has a fantastic group of girls. I am excited to see what their team can do this year.

I am excited that the official cross country season has finally begun and the fun and excitement is just beginning. I hope everyone enjoyed the first official weekend of cross country. Congrats to everyone who competed and completed a race this weekend. Keep up the great training and great things shall come!
