Where Are They Now? Stephanie schappert

Former Pope John Paul II standout Stephanie Schappert  followed in the family footsteps by attending Villanova University. While in high school Schappert was a two time state champion in cross country (08 and 09). She also won four outdoor state titles, two in the 1600 and two in the 800. As a freshman Schappert was a huge contributor to the Wildcat track and field team and served as the number eight runner on the cross country team. As a sophomore, she  is looking to make an even greater impact on the Wildcat track and field and cross country programs.

What was the biggest adjustment you had to make to compete at the college level?

Freshmen year was definitely an adjustment for me. It was an exciting time filled with the new experiences of living on your own, training in a new environment, racing at a higher competition level, and meeting tons of new people. I think the biggest adjustment was just learning to balance everything! My transition into college went really smoothly with the support of my team and coaches.

Is there anything you can tell high school athletes to better prepare them for the college experience?

Preparing for college is a really fun time. I think it's important to keep and open mind and enjoy the experience as a whole. Things may seem overwhelming at times, but before you know it you will have a handle over everything. Work hard, but make sure to have fun along the way.

You had a lot great moments in your high school career. Which stand out the most?

My best memories of high school were always the times I spent with my team. I will always look back on the times when we worked hard together and succeeded together. Of course I will never forget the silly times we had whether we were joking at practice or having team bonding events.

What do you miss most about running in high school?

I really loved my high school running career, it was filled with so many great memories! Of course I miss my old team mates and coaches, but I was ready to move onto my college career. Villanova is the perfect fit for me and I could not be happier.

What piece of coaching or advice that someone gave you has been the biggest help?

Don't stress the small things and always maintain a positive attitude. Also make sure you are always enjoying the sport and having fun. There are always going to be small set backs, but if you keep a positive outlook and have fun through the process everything is going to work out for the best.
