Early on it was Ben Roberts of Winter Park and Sergio Santiago of Olympia out front with Lake Nona freshman Jean Carlos Peralta within striking distance. Roberts opened up about a five meter lead on Santiago coming into the mile mark and a 25 meter lead on Peralta. Heading down the final straight away it was Peralta who had emerged as the leader. He had a little confusion the last 300 meters, but with the help of his Lake Nona coaches and some fans got on the straight and narrow path leading him to a first place finish in an unofficial time of 16:41.Santiago was second in around 16:56,  while Roberts edged out a Colonial harrier for third place in 16:58.

In the girls race, it was the Emily Headley show. Headley trying to pick up her second win of the 2012 season did not disappoint. The Olympia sophomore had some pressure early on from Lake Nona freshman Adair Lyden who transferred in from Westminster Academy. Lyden was on her heels for about the first two miles before Headley separated herself from everyone. She coasted to an unofficial time of 18:46. After the race she said the win was a huge confidence booster heading into the postseason. Lyden was second in 19:02 followed by Cypress Creek sophomore Kaley Schmick in 19:10.
