Girls State Rankings by Classifications:

1A Girls Rankings   By: Nathan Means, Mount Dora Bible School, nathan.means@chbs.org
Team Rankings:
Commentary: The top three faced off head to head at FSU and results were clear and as expected, though expect a tighter score come the state meet. Geneva and Circle pulled something together quick at FSU and backed it up at Holy Trinity.  Outside of that, not a lot of change (couldn't find recent team results for #8-10) We'll see how things play out in the last two weekends before districts, but I don't expect to see a whole lot of major moves team-wise until after the first district meet.

15. Seffner Christian, R2 (12) 24th in FSU Silver with 24:21 avg., 5th at Run with the Bulls with 22:36 avg.
Individual Rankings:
Commentary: Julie W. is still clearly at the top, but after her are several tight packs.  Holy Trinity's course always runs fast while FSU appeared to run slightly slow.  I'm trying to be fair here, and rely on more recent results.

2A Girls Rankings   By: Doug Nowlin, Pine Crest School, doug.nowlin@pinecrest.edu
Team Rankings:
Commentary: There was a little bit of shaking up and moving around in the 2a girls rankings, but nothing major. Bolles and Bishop Kenny remain the two strongest teams. They will have at least three more head to head meetings this season: District, Regional, and the State Championship. The remaining teams just seem to be getting stronger. Only 30 seconds separates the next 9 teams. That is impressive considering last weekend was the SAT weekend, so some teams raced at less than full-strength. And if your school is like mine, there are lots of colds and other annoying maladies making the rounds which can also bring teams down for a few days. Teams that are able to keep their packs tight and strive to stay healthy are finding their hard work is paying off. My next rankings will appear on Wed., Nov. 7th and will preview the Regional Championships.

  Team Name, Region (Prev.)  Comments:
1. Bolles, R1 (1) 19:43 (SB - Bale N Trail); 1-5 Split = 1:36; Bolles placed 8th in the competitive Elite Race at FSU Pre-State, and finished a close second at Bale N Trail to an out-of-state school.  Still the dominant team for 2a Girls.
2. Bishop Kenny, R2 (2) 20:12 (SB - Bale N Trail); 1-5 Split = 1:12; Bishop Kenny placed 11th in the competitive Elite Race at FSU Pre-State, and 3rd at Bale N Trail.  Still keeping Bolles within striking distance.
3. Pine Crest, R4 (8) 20:48 (SB - FSU Pre-State); 1-5 Split = 3:45; Pine Crest placed 1st in the Small School Division at FSU Pre-State, and also won its school's inaugural Invitational at Mills Pond.  Team is almost back to full strength.
4. Carrollton, R4 (7) 20:56 (SB - Jr. Orange Bowl); 1-5 Split = 1:07;  The defending State Champs were back in action this week with an impressive 2nd place finish at the Jr. Orange Bowl Invitational at Larry and Penny Thompson Park.
5. Nature Coast Tech, R2 (10) 20:59 (SB - Run With the Bulls); 1-5 Split = 1:01; Nature Coast Tech placed 13th in the Invitational Division at FSU Pre-State, and took the Runner-up spot at the Run with the Bulls Invite.

  HONORABLE MENTION:
Crystal River, Bishop Moore, Rockledge, Titusville, Berkeley Prep, Episcopal
Individual Rankings:
Commentary: Similar to the team rankings -- not a lot of changes.  But the times are consistently getting faster. A few weeks ago, breaking 21:00 would have earned an Honorable Mention. This week, runners needed a time under 20:00. Congratulations girls!  Stay healthy, have fun, and keep getting faster.

Athlete Name, Grade, Team (Prev.)  Time, Comments:
1. Julia Montgomery, 9th, Pine Crest (1) 17:52 (SB - FlRunners ROC); Julia won the Small Schools Division of the FSU Pre-State, and was also the winner of the 1st Pine Crest Invitational at Mills Pond.  Congratulations Julia!
2. Sarah Day, 12, West Shore (2) 18:08 (SB - Holy Trinity); Sarah was 9th at the competitive Elite Race at FSU Pre-State, and 2nd at Holy Trinity.  But what is most impressive about Sarah is the consistent 5k times in the low 18:00s throughout this season.
3. Mackenzie Wilson, 9th, Bolles (3) 18:38 (SB - Bale N Trail); Strong finish in the competitive Elite Race at FSU Pre-State, and Mackenzie was a close 2nd to an out-of-state runner at Bale N Trail.  There is an adage that if you want to get better, seek the best competition.  Mackenzie has gone head to head against some of the strongest competition in the SE United States this season.  Her times are still dropping.
4. Adair Lyden, 9th, Lake Nona (4) 18:42 (SB - FlRunners ROC); Strong finish in the competitive Elite Race at FSU Pre-State, despite an illness, and Adair took 1st place in the Trinity Prep Invite #2.  Congratulations Adair!

10. Macey Kaczorowski, 11th, Bishop Kenny (9) 19:37 (SB - Great American); Macey had strong performances in the competitive Elite Race at FSU Pre-State, and also at Bale N Trail.  She is the leader of a strong team, which is striving to close the gap on rival Bolles.

4A Girls Rankings   By: Ryan Raposo, John A. Ferguson HS, ryanraposo@gmail.com
Team Rankings:
Commentary: Besides FSU, there were a ton of different little meets to look at. Many schools were missing one of their top five runners, and outside of FSU there was little head-to-head racing. So take these with a grain of salt as we start heading into the championship season!

  Team Name, Region (Prev.)  Comments:
1. St. Thomas Aquinas, 3 (1) 19:07 Team Avg, 1:35 Spread, 2nd @ FSU Gold; Although they were the top team in 4A a year ago, this year STA looks to be unstoppable. They almost took down Estero, and they’re in the driver seat for the State meet this year.
2. Plant, 2 (2) 19:39 Team Avg, 1:48 Spread, 3rd @ FSU Gold (yet #2 runner DNF); Even without their #2 runner finishing, Plant looks to make the podium again this year, although silver looks to the new color they might be sporting.
3. Olympia, 1 (4) 19:44 Team Avg, 2:08 Spread, 4th @ FSU Gold; Looking strong when it matters at the big show. The Titans might be able to make a move on Plant if they have another slip up with runners not being able to finish their races.
4. Ferguson, 4 (3) 19:59 Team Avg, 1:14 Spread, 6th @ FSU Gold; Having the best pack doesn't mean a whole lot when the team is slower than it could be. They'll really need to keep working hard to have a shot at thinking about the podium for this season.
5. Hagerty, 1 (6) 20:25 Team Avg, 4:48 Spread, 13th @ FSU Gold; 2:40 of their spread is from #4 to #5. They're just a solid #5 runner away from potentially being a solid top 3 team this year, this could be the dark horse podium team as the season starts winding down.
6. Lourdes, 4 (5) 20:33 Team Avg, 1:51 Spread, 15th @ FSU Gold; Missing a couple of top girls due to injury has created a gap between their 1-2 and the rest of their varsity pack. In a small meet however, they should be able to pass Hagerty.
7. Newsome, 2 (7) Between FSU, Land O' Lakes, Armwood, and the Hillsborough 9th/10th meet, I promise they had some form of competitve racing in the last two weeks, just not everyone together.
8. Dr. Phillips, 1 (8) 20:24 Team Avg, 3rd at Hagerty Invite; Still needing to work on the back half of that varsity squad. And here starts the battle to qualify to state for the Region of Death. Any of the next five Region 1 teams, could claim the last three qualifying slots. All of them are top 15 State teams.
9. Lake Mary, 1 (11) 21:35 Team Avg, 2:29 Spread, 24th @ FSU Gold (Missing #2)
10. Colonial, 1 (10) 21:38 Team Avg, 3:35 Spread, 22nd @ FSU Gold (Missing #5)
11. Spanish River, 3 (13) 21:10 Team Avg, 3:05 Spread, 4th @ FSU Silver
12. Park Vista, 3 (14) 21:19 Team Avg, 1:23 Spread, 3rd @ FSU Silver
13. Spruce Creek, 1 (NR) 21:23 Team Avg, 6th @ Spruce Creek Invite
14. Palm Harbor Univ., 2 (NR) 21:37 Team Avg, 1st @ Land O' Lakes Invite
15. Freedom (Tampa), 2 (15) 22:15 Team Avg, 4:45 Spread, 7th @ Land O' Lakes (Missing #3)
16. Sarasota Riverview, 2 (21) 21:57 Team Avg, :52 Spread, 15th @ FSU Silver (Missing #1)
17. Wharton, 2 (16) 21:42 Team Avg, 2nd at Armwood Invite
18. Coral Reef, 4 (17) 21:52 Team Avg, 4th @ Jr Orange Bowl
19. Jupiter, 3 (9) 23:18 Team Avg, 2nd at Southwest Invitational
20. South Dade, 4 (20) 22:24 Team Avg, 6th @ Jr Orange Bowl
21. Dwyer, 3 (19) 23:29 Team Avg @ North Palm Beach Central Invite; 23:44, 10th @ 4A Disney World
22. Boca Raton, 3 (22) IDLE
23. Miami Coral Park, 4 (23) 23:36 Team Avg, 9th @ Jr Orange Bowl
24. Miami Sunset, 4 (24) 24:02 Team Avg, 13th @ Jr Orange Bowl (Missing #3)

Boxed Out Teams:   7th and 8th teams in Region 1:
12? Lake Brantley, 1 (12) 21:23 Team Avg, 8th at Hagerty Invite
13? Winter Park, 1 (NR) 21:44 Team Avg, 3:46 Spread, 23rd @ FSU Gold

  Dropped from Rankings:
  Vero Beach, 2 (18) 22:55 Team Avg, 8th @ 4A Disney World

  Upcoming Team:
Miami Beach, 4 (NR) 23:53 Team Avg, 10th @ Jr Orange Bowl
Individual Rankings:
Commentary: Most of the girls are based off of FSU (Pre-State) Invitational times, although some had other races as well, but I gave precedent to the state course. Also, I thought Hagerty ran slightly faster (~10 seconds) than FSU and Jr Orange Bowl ran slightly slower (~15 seconds) so I adjusted for those times as well.

2A Boys Rankings   By: Mike Becker, Ransom Everglades, mbecker@ransomeverglades.org
Team Rankings:
Commentary: Bishop  Kenny appears unstoppable with depth and elite runners. After that, who the heck knows? Immokalle has been a little better in head to heads thus far with some teams on this list from  3 through 8. I can see any of the teams from 3 through 8 getting to the podium if all falls into place for them. CB clearly has the top 3  it needs, but has a huge  gap to 4 and 5. Nature Coast last week had a large gap to 4 and 5 as well. Lake Nona usually has 5 close, but had a gap to 5  when they last raced. Jesuit, Ransom and Robinson have posted improving times in recent weeks and have stronger depth than some of the teams ranked higher than they are. A side note... some team in the Orlando/Tamps region ranked in the top 10 may not get out, as that region is once again the toughest in AA.

  Team Name (Prev.)  Comments:
1. Bishop Kenny (1) Clear number one…. No one close
2. Immokalee (T2) Gets numner two spot in a tie breaker over CB, more depth than CB to date, but less strength at 1-3
3 Cocoa Beach (T2) Right with Immokalee
4. Nature Coast (4) Ran well   at 1-3  last week
5. Lake Nona (8) Even though 5th had an off day, their depth is the best of any team outside of Kenny
6. Jesuit (6) Along with Ransom and Robinson, .. Improving
7. Ransom Everglades (5) Fast times on fast Wickham course
8 Robinson (7) Almost Inseparable from Jesuit and Robinson
9. West Florida Tech (T10) Clearly a top 10 team , maybe as high as 5
10. Pensacola Catholic (NR) Three  way tie here… can't separate them  objectively
10 Lake Highland (NR) Ditto
10 Berkeley Prep (T10) Ditto
13 Eastside (9)
Individual Rankings:
Commentary: Not knowing what happened to Barr last week  (as I live in the tropics), he is still clearly the favorite in my eyes. Yarbrough has been impressive in recent races, and gives BK as solid a 1-2 as is possible. De La Cruz lost a close one last week at home, but is still a legit threat to the throne. In fact, this whole list is much more muddled than last year, and I can see anyone in the top 9 or so making a late season charge . We have some guys in the Panhandle improving rapidly, and since the race is in Tallahassee, may have a bult in advantage.   I know there are guys who dropped off this list and will finish in the top 15 let alone top 20.  ...the Nature Coast trio, Correa,  Vazquez, Medina and the Lake Nona contingent. But to be fair, I cut off at 16:37 ( somewhat arbitray if you ran 16:38).  My simulators are running full blast as I try to "get it right"

Individual Rankings:
Commentary: Carlos skipped FSU and then cruised to an easy win at his home invite. I expect him to let it rip this weekend at Lely. Lopez had a hiccup at FSU but got back on track with a win at Jr Orange Bowl. With Bennett, Morken and Howell lurking , anyone if vulnerable if they have an off day.
