National Signing Day 2013

February 6th is National Signing Day! This is the first day athletes around the country (and world) can make their college commitments official.
 
Many of the top stars around the country will have official signing ceremonies on National Signing Day, while others may do so in the coming days in weeks. We want to applaud all of our college-bound seniors and celebrate their decisions of where they will spend the next four years.
 
Who will be the college programs to line up an amazing class to make then national championship contenders over the next years? On National Signing Day the picture starts to become clearer!

Dr. Phillips' Duo Head To Rival Schools

Bridget Blake and Amber Johnson are not only teammates, but best friends. Blake, a seven time state champion in track and field and cross country and two-time Foot Locker National Finalist is headed to Tallahassee to run for Karen Harvey and the Florida State Seminoles. Johnson has decided to stay in-state as well and run for the University of Florida. She grew up a Gator fan and said in an earlier interview that Florida was a dream school.



FSU Welcomes Whitfield To Seminole Family

Last year Marvin Bracy was the top sprinter in the nation this year it is arguably cousin Levonte "Kermit" Whitfield. Bracy signed with FSU last year and now cousin Kermit is doing the same thing. Whitfield provides another weapon for the Seminoles both on the football field and on the track. He chose the Seminoles over offers from Ohio State, Miami, and a host of other schools. On the track, he has a personal best time of 10.21 in the 100 meters and 6.71 seconds in the 60 meter dash. As a junior, he won the prestigious Dream 100 in New York City as well as repeat state championships in the 100 meter dash, and a 60 meter indoor  title at the Brooks PR Invitational in Seattle. He won the 200 as a junior and finished second as a sophomore. 

 

Burns Blazing Up The Hurdles - Stays In South Florida

Artie Burns one of the top two sports athletes in the country has decided to play football and run track for the University of Miami. The Miami Northwestern star will be a heavy favorite to take home both the 110 and 300 meter hurdle state championships this outdoor season where he has personal bests of 13.35 and 36.06.

Nationally Ranked Sprinter Kali-Davis White Signs With Seminoles - Boyd Anderson Sends Two More To Allen Community College

Kali Davis-White one of the top female sprinters in the nation has pledged to run for Florida State University. Davis-White has personal bests of 6.96 (55 meters), 11.45 (100 meters), and 23.57 (200 meters). She finished second at the 3A Outdoor State Championships in both the 100 and 200 to then teammate and current University of Florida freshman Shayla Sanders. She picked the Seminoles over LSU, UCF, and UF. Davis-White will compete against some of the nation's top sprinters at the Brooks PR Inviational at the end of the month and will be the favorite for a 100 and 200 meter state championship when the outdoor season opens up.

Teammates Widline Lageroy, a fellow sprinter,  and hurdler Vanessa Style also signed college scholarships. They will run next fall for Allen Community College in Iola, Kansas.

Lakewood Trio Sign College Scholarships

Lakewood Rach sent a trio of distance runners to college on National Signing Day. 2011 3A Cross Country State Champion Olivia Ortiz signed with the University of Alabama. Ortiz also won a state championship in the 4x800 meter relay with the two other signees Kristin Zarella and Natalie Novak. Zarella signed with Southern Miss while Novak stayed in Florida and will run for the University of South Florida.

Estero Standouts Team Up At Ole Miss

Kacy Smith and Katy G. Solis know what it's like to be on a winning program. The duo have racked up three cross country team titles while at Estero and Smith has an individual won to boot. In 2012, Solis and Smith went 2-3 at the Cross Country Finals. They join a great recruiting class coming into Oxford, Mississippi for the fall of 2013.

Andres Arroyo Goes From Grenadier To Gator

In the past two years we have seen excellence from Colonial senior Andres Arroyo. As a junior he won the 4A cross country state championship and led Colonial to school's first team title in any sport. He followed that up with three rings in the outdoor season finishing first in the 1600, 3200 and anchoring the Grenadiers 4x800 meter relay team. Arroyo then capped off his cross country career with his second 4A state championship and guiding Colonial to their second team trophy. 

Trinity Prep Standout Daniel Salas Signs With Big Green

Salas started off his senior season on a very impressive note winning the Trinity Prep Invitational, the Jim Ryun Invitational, and the Embry Riddle Asics Cross Country Meet. Then against a top field at the flrunners.com Invitational Salas came in third place with a new personal best of 15:17.60, the fourth fastest time regardless of class. He went onto take district and regional crowns before finishing runner-up at the 1A Cross Counrty Finals for the second straight year. In 2009 and 2010 he finished 8th and 6th respectively as Trinity Prep won the team championship. Salas has committed to Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire.

Miranda Makes The Call: It's University of Florida

Palmetto Ridge senior Carlos Miranda is a three time regional champion and one of the best runners in Southwest Florida and in the state. Miranda ended his college recruitment by selecting the in state Florida Gators.

 

The decision to switch from soccer to track and field and cross country paid off for Plant senior Scarlett Fox. Fox who finished 12th at the 4A Cross Country Finals and 5th at the FACA Senior All Star meet has signed to run for the Ole Miss Rebels.

The Buzz Around Fort Myers: Brown's A Bee, McGonagle Signs With UT

Fort Myers High School had two runners sign National Letters of Intent. Ace Brown signed with NAIA power SCAD and chose the Bees for their great art program as well as consistency in the NAIA. He had several in state offers from UF, FSU, and UNF, amongst others. Brown finished 5th at the Cross Country Finals, 19th at the Foot Locker South Regional, and won the FACA Senior All Star Meet. Teammate Brendan McGonagle one of the senior leaders for the Green Wave will head from Ft. Myers to Tampa to run for the University of Tampa.

Nease senior Ceolomar Ways, one of the top quarter milers in the country, since with the University of North Carolina.

Sickles distance runner Abdin Fator signs on the dotted line with Florida State University.

Cocoa sprinter-jumper Jazzmine Folston will head west and run for TCU.

Sprinters Sabria Hadley and Deja Jones of Lake Wales sign with Clemson University and Florida Atlantic University.

Miami Southridge hurdler Ebony Morrison choose the Auburn Tigers.

Keswick Christian senior Hannah Palm signs with Charleston Southern University.



Distance runner Hannah Loder of Matanzas signs with USF.

West Shore senior Sarah Day makes it official that she will be a Florida Gator.



Taylor Tubbs signs with the University of Florida.
