George Jenkins sophomore, Alicia Ruiz, ran a 2:29.35 800m as an eighth grader in 2017. Last season, Ruiz took a whopping 12.9 seconds off that personal best to run a 2:16.45 at the USATF Junior Olympic Championships. Ruiz is coming off an incredible cross country season, placing state runner-up in the 4A girls race with a new PR of 18:06. Ruiz has quite the bright future ahead of her as she enters her sophomore season. 

We broke down the top year-over-year performances from athletes that raced the 800m distance in 2017 and 2018 to see how each athlete improved and what we can expect to see from them this season.
