We had an awesome time at the 2014 FACA Senior All-Star Meet. In addition to race videos and interviews, our team of Donald Lamb and Peter Zboyan took over 1,000 photos of all the action. We wanted to feature them in our Behind The Lens article and say thank you to them as well as all our senior runners for supporting the site over the last four years!
It's time for the latest round of selections for the 2014 Florida Athletic Coaches Association Cross Country Senior All Star Meet!
With only one week to go, it's time to really start breaking down all of the top seniors from around the state in preparation for the Florida Athletic Coaches Association's Senior All-Star Meet. Some top selections have already been made by the FACA All-Star Committee, while the rest of the athletes will be selected this Sunday to start rounding out the teams.
The top 32 senior boys from across the state will run one last cross country race in the Sunshine State at Lake Nona High School in Central Florida. Defending 1A Cross Country Finals champion Franco Martins comes in with the fastest time of the field which includes sixteen runners under sixteen minutes! The gap between first and 32nd? Only 69 seconds. The whole group under 16:30. The impressive field will make for a very competitive team battle. Our virtual meet has the top three separated by two points. The top 32 senior girls from across the state will run one last cross country race in the Sunshine State at Lake Nona High School in Central Florida. The East team looks like the squad to beatwith the top three entrants in the field in Olympia's Emily Headley, Emily Chapman from Brevard HEAT, and Fatema Jaffer of Lake Mary. Jaffer was sixth at the 4A Cross Country Finals while Headley was 12th. Chapman was 7th at the 1A Cross Country Finals. Watch for a trio from the north to also be in the mix for the team title with Jessica Taylor of Creekside, Audrey Carpenter of Vanguard, and Morgan Lucey of Episcopal leading the way.
The FACA Senior All-Star Meet dates back to the late 90's and has seen some of the top talent in the state of Florida compete in the race. 2014 will be no different. The meet which has switched locations to Central Florida and Lake Nona High School will host the top 64 seniors in one final cross country race in the Sunshine State. Sixty four of the top senior from around the state took part in the 2014 FACA Senior All-Star Meet. Our team was on-site including photographer Donald Lamb who took over 400 photos of all the action and awards including this one of champions Franco Martins of Windermere Prep (East team) and Fatema Jaffer of Lake Mary (East team).
Franco Martins jumped out to a sizeable lead on the field at the 2014 FACA Senior All-Star Meet, but with a tight pack following behind, the race for second went all the way down to the end. Check out the race video!
Lake Mary's Fatema Jaffer won the girl's race at the Senior FACA All-Star Meet in 18:14.34 just shy of a new personal best. Despite her win it was the North squad that took away the team title going 2, 3, 4, and 5 for their first four runners! Check out all the highlights!
