The Florida men\'s and women\'s cross country teams both had outstanding performances Saturday at the Ninth Annual Disney Cross Country Classic. The women won their 5K race with 32 points while the Florida men also took first in their 8K race with 45 points at the meet held at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Florida also had the individual champion in both races.
District 11's Liberty HS made a trip of it to Florida (after the hurricanes, of course) and left with some nice hardware, including a 2nd place trophy in the girls race, and 3rd place in the boys.
Forest Park junior Stefanie Slekis continued what has been amazing fall of cross country for her as she posted the state\'s second fastest 5K time of the season to date by winning the Disney Classic 4A girls\' race in a time of 18:11.03. Slekis won by an impressive 40 second margin and helped pace the Lady Bruins to a fourth place team finish (121 points) in Orlando.
Longwood University senior Jessica Walton and freshmen Mark Anderson helped lead the Lancers to strong team showings at the Disney Classic with huge PR days for each runner. Walton (Jamestown HS graduate) ran a personal best for 5000 meters with a time of 19:08 to finish 34th overall in the race, while Anderson (Western Branch HS graduate) ran a new best time for 8000 times with a 27:08 clocking for a 58th place finish. The Longwood women finished 12th overall in the team stanings out of 32 teams, while the men finished 20th out of 31 teams.
