We have decided not to do two different varsity races (elite and invitational) this year. Instead we will just run one varsity race. Also you will be allowed to run up to 10 runners in the varsity race. Your top 5 will count for your team score.
Timing
We are very excited to announce that this year we will be using chip/transponder timing provided by CFPI Timing again this year.
Sanctioning
Sanctioned by FHSAA and NFHS for six states: TN, LA, MS, AL, GA and FL. Last year we had over 100 teams participate from over 50 schools.
Location & Course
Escambia County Equestrian Center, 7750 Mobile Highway, Pensacola, Florida, Course is very wide, about 60% grass, 40% trail and mostly flat.
Registration
Registration will open on September 16th at directathletics.com, the exact url is http://www.directathletics.com/meets/xc/3179.html The registration deadline is 11:59pm Saturday, September 24th. You must enter every athlete including junior varsity runners. On race day you will send up to 10 runners from any of the runners you registered to the varsity race that we put you in, your remaining runners will run in the junior varsity race. We will announce race assignments the week of the race.
Entry Fees
Varsity Races: $60 for a single Varsity Boys or Girls team, $120 for both. If you do not have a full varsity girls or boys team, the cost per individual Varsity Runner is $15. Make checks payable to West Florida High School and mail them to Jeffrey Oliver, West Florida High School, 2400 Longleaf Dr., Pensacola, FL, 32526. Payments can be made the day of the race.
J.V. Races: Free and unlimited for both boys and girls teams as long as each team has a paid varsity team running. Otherwise it is $60 per gender to enter an unlimited number of runners or $15 a runner.
Races and Awards
Varsity Races (10 runners max., 5 for a team score): The Individual champion of each Varsity Race will get a statue trophy and Elite Champion t-shirt. Second through fifth place individuals will get medals plus a top 5 varsity finisher t-shirt. Sixth through twentieth place individuals will get a medal. Team trophies will be award to the top 3 teams.
JV Races (unlimited entries, 5 for a team score): 1st 10th medals. Team Trophy will be award to the top team.
Class Trophies: Top runner of the day for each class for both boys and girls will get a statue trophy.
Admission
$5 per vehicle, comes with a free drink ticket.
Team Dinner Social
We will be hosting a team dinner social the night before the race Friday September 30th, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Coaches may also pick-up their race packets anytime during this event. It will be held at Sam's Fun City, which is located at 6709 Pensacola Blvd., Pensacola Fl, 32505. The dinner will be a Pasta Buffet including salad, desserts and drinks for $10 a person. This event will also include Unlimited Go-karts for and additional $10 a person (Family and Rookie Track) OR Unlimited Laser Tag for $10.00 per person from 6:00pm-9pm. Coaches, if you are looking to book a group event at Sam's Fun City after the race, call Sam's Fun City at 850-505-0800. Tell them that you will be participating in the Gulf Coast Cross Country Stampede and you will get a special group rate. You will need to book at least two weeks in advance. Running Wild
Running Wild, our local running apparel store, will have a tent set up at the meet. They specialize in fitting every person to the proper shoe and apparel. They will analyze your unique biomechanics to determine your degree of pronation and from there they can narrow the shoe selection to a stability, motion-control, or cushioned shoe. They will also be selling the latest in racing flats and spikes. Call them at 850-435-9222 for more information.
