Hello everyone, I hope everybody has had a good first few weeks of racing. A lot has happened since I last blogged. From races to team sleepovers, these first few weeks of the season have been quite eventful and fun. I hope the rest of the season will be as exciting!

As I lay in bed listening to hip hop music, I look back on the race I had this past Saturday. I think of all the things I would have done differently and I think about all of the things I did right. Maybe I went out a little fast. Maybe holding a 5:20 mile wouldn’t have hurt that bad. Maybe I should have kicked a little harder for tenth place. Whatever could have happened doesn’t make what did happen any less significant.

Hello FLRunners! My name is Blake Riley and I am a junior at Riverview High School in Sarasota. After a successful 1st place finish at the Holloway Park Invitational for my team and my first top five finish in a cross country meet; we were extremely excited coming into week two at the Newsome Wolves Invitational hosted by Newsome High School.

Hey Flrunners! I hope that  everyone has enjoyed the first two weeks of the season. It looks like everyone is off to a great start. Last Thursday, my teammates and I had our first meet. It was the Indian Rocks Christian Season Opener at Taylor Lake Park. Sixteen schools competed in this meet and Indian Rocks did a great job putting it together. This meet was a challenge, but it was also really fun!

It was nice to spend my first Saturday in almost four months actually competing. After a meet where rain and lightning disrupted the Varsity races at Trinity Prep, this week the entire Timber Creek boys and girls program took the two and a half hour commute by school bus from Orlando to Jacksonville to compete in the Katie Caples Invitational.

Hello Flrunners! Now that the season is officially underway, I hope those who raced had a great opener. I have seen some fast times already recorded, which is awesome. It makes me even more excited for the meets to come.

Welcome back to my blog. I hope everyone enjoyed their first race of the season as much as I did. I couldn’t have asked for a better start of the season from my team. As for the other teams around the state, I saw some impressive performances over the weekend and congratulations to ALL who competed.

Guess what everyone? The season is pretty much here. Summer conditioning flew right on by. Those early morning long runs and drowsy afternoons are all over. No more late nights, beach days, or summer romances. As my coach would say, it is now “game on” and the Saint Augustine High Cross Country team is surely ready to get their game going.

I never would have expected to become a runner. I wasn't very athletic, I was atrocious at team sports, and the idea of playing a sport in high school had never even crossed my mind. At the time I was 16 years old, about to be a junior in high school and I had no real idea of what I wanted to do with my life.
