The ladies and gents of Flagler Palm Coast swept the 2015 Five Star Conference team titles. Ralph Epifanio was on-site and took over 1,100 photos of all the action! Come inside and take a look for yourself.
We wanted to see who the top teams were regardless of class and score it as a meet. The Holy Trinity girls were second at the Astronaut Invitational and behind Winter Park in the standings at Carrollton, but based on season bests the Tigers have an average time of 19:24.44 compared to Winter Park's 19:36.64. Pine Crest who is up for MileSplit's Girls National Team of the Week after their strong showing at the UF Mt. Dew Invitational comes in at number two.
The 2014 Cross Country Finals are 81 days away! Though that may seem like a long time to some, the meet will be here before we know it. Teams spent the summer logging quality miles and attending running camp. This week marks the official start of team practices for many with pre-season meets taking place this weekend and the main events the first week in September. As we continue our rankings, we count down the top ten girls teams regardless of class. Did your team make the list? Find out!
The Seabreeze girl's cross country team was ranked 35th coming into the 2013 season. The Sandcrabs won all their dual meets, were 8th at the UF Mt. Dew Invitational and finished tenth in the flrunners.com Girls Race of Champions. In the post season they claimed a district title and regional runner-up trophy, and were third in a very competitive 3A Cross Counfy Finals.
As we transition into the 2014-15 school year and shift from track & field back to cross country, it's fun to utilize the flrunners database to see just what teams dominated distance races on the track and what happens if you scored those events as a cross country meet. This is by far one of my favorite features. Here's what the database tells us...
Lake Nona High School played host to the 3A Region 2 Championships. The top fifteen individuals and six teams advanced. Springstead sophomore Amber Philpott her fifth win of the year, taking home individual honors in 18:53.80. Ocala Vanguard edged out Seabreeze for the team championship. In the boys race, Land O'Lakes showed their prowess lead by Travis Nichols and Tyler Stahl who crossed the finish in near identical times 16:05.10 and 16:05.30. The Gators won the team trophy easily with 66 points. ,
While in high school, I was determined to be an astronomer. Because the stars and planets existed in a three-dimensional sphere, a career in that science meant a lot of higher level mathematics. (It is not easy finding one star among billions, especially since they move around constantly.) Unfortunately, at the time, calculators were still a novelty, and PCs had yet to be invented, so calculations had to be done with lots of paper and pencils, and a slide rule. (Betcha never seen one, eh?)
When it comes to weather, I always go-a with NOAA, or the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Everything else is just a watered-down version of true meteorology.
