Gators Hunting Trophies at NCAA Outdoor Championships

Florida's men are chasing a three-peat, while the women look to ride the momentum from their SEC title all the way to the team podium in Eugene.
EUGENE, Ore. – Florida boasts 30 entries—a nation-leading 17 on the men's side and 13 on the women's side—for this week's NCAA Outdoor Championships, beginning Wednesday, June 6 and concluding Saturday, June 9 at Historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

Men's events are held days one (June 6) and three (June 8), while women's events are contested days two (June 7) and four (June 9).

The Gators, ranked No. 1 by a gaping margin on the men's side and No. 5 on the women's side of the latest USTFCCCA National Team Rankings, return seven scorers from the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Championships, which saw the men win their second consecutive national title, while the women placed fifth, missing the team podium by a point. At March's NCAA Indoor Championships, Florida's men won their eighth national title since 2010, a figure that leads all of Division I by three titles during that span.

Florida could join Texas A&M (2009-11) as the only other program since 2000 to win three consecutive NCAA Outdoor Championships. Since 1983, only Texas A&M and Arkansas (1992-99) have three-peated. The Gators would also join Arkansas—which won eight consecutive outdoor national titles from 1992-99—as the only other program since 1983 to win five NCAA Outdoor Championships in a seven-year span.

Senior KeAndre Bates (long jump, triple jump) and sophomore Grant Holloway (110-meter hurdles) are both defending individual national titles this week. A year ago, Bates became the seventh man in Division I history to sweep the horizontal jumps, while Holloway became the third freshman in history to win the 110 hurdles title.

Holloway, the 2018 SEC Men's Indoor and Outdoor Runner of the Year, holds the 110 hurdles world lead of 13.15 seconds—also the second-fastest time in collegiate history. The Chesapeake, Va., native ranks second nationally in the long jump as well, and last month he became the second man in history to win both the long jump and high hurdles titles at the SEC Outdoor Championships.

Bates enters the meet ranked third nationally in the triple jump and 12th in the long jump.

Another highly-ranked Gator on the men's side is junior hammer thrower Anders Eriksson. The 2018 SEC Men's Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year ranks third nationally entering Wednesday's competition.

Junior quarter-miler Sharrika Barnett leads the women's qualifiers. The Orlando, Fla., product won the SEC title last month and ranks fourth among NCAA Outdoors entrants. Barnett finished fifth a year ago and fourth at March's NCAA Indoor Championships.

Sixth-year senior javelin thrower Avione Allgood also won an SEC title last month. Although she enters Thursday's competition ranked sixth nationally, she beat three of the top five throwers, including collegiate leader Mackenzie Little, in head-to-head competition this year. Allgood has not lost to a collegiate competitor in any of her last five meets.

Junior Yanis David and senior Darrielle McQueen comprise the women's jumps corps. Both are doubling in the long jump and triple jump. David, the No. 7-ranked triple jumper in collegiate history, has finished third in that event each of the last two NCAA Outdoors, and she ranks second nationally among long jump entrants. McQueen ranks third nationally among long jump entrants.

Florida's relays will also be national title contenders, boasting national rankings of No. 1 (men's 4x400) and No. 3 (men's 4x100, women's 4x400).

ESPN will provide live television and streaming coverage for all four days of competition, including standalone streams dedicated to field events. A full listing of live broadcast windows, field event streams, and the Gators' competition schedule are all below.
