Bulls Post Pair of NCAA Provisional Marks at Boston

Women's Results

BOSTON
- The University of South Florida women's track and field team posted a pair of NCAA provisional qualifying marks and numerous personal bests on the day as the Bulls completed a successful showing at the Reebok Invitational Friday at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center.

Senior Yvana Hepburn ran a 7.86 in the finals of the 55-meter hurdles as she posted the exact NCAA qualifying time while also coming up just .10 seconds short of the school record of 7.76 held by former Olympian Damu Cherry.

Junior Stephanie Duffy, meanwhile, vaulted herself to 13-3.5 in the pole vault, eclipsing the 13-1.5 NCAA provisional height required for a shot at making it to the NCAA Indoor Championships.

The marks by both Duffy and Hepburn rank second all-time at USF and were personal bests, as both won their respective event titles at the meet. Hepburn bested her previous PR by .09 seconds, while Duffy went a whopping eight inches above her previous career-best indoor height.

Teams from across the Northeast came to compete, including Yale, Holy Cross, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maine and host Northeastern. The Bulls came in second with 112 points, while Northeastern won the meet title with 135.25 points.

The duo weren't the only ones making a splash at the meet Friday evening.

A pair of sophomores in Nicole Rozario and Yasmin Smith earned their way to the BIG EAST Championships in three weeks in the mile, as the pair finished sixth and eighth, respectively, in the race. Rozario went 5:01.80 to post a PR by a little more the 3.5 seconds, while Smith had a time of 5:05.60, coming in under the BIG EAST cutoff of 5:08.44.

Sophomore Shaniel Chambers took first in the 500 for USF after running a 1:15.57. Junior Rachel Etienne and senior Kayla Richmond came in at fifth and seventh, respectively, behind Chambers as they finished less than a second off the BIG EAST qualifying time of 1:17.24.

A pair of pole vaulters continued to go higher as the season wears on, as junior Dana Webb finished second behind Duffy with a vault of 11-11.75, while freshman Nicole Smith earned USF's third new BIG EAST mark after she went over 11 feet at 11-1.75 for fifth.

Sophomore Allie Prendergast kept the momentum going in the distance events, as she took second in the 3,000 meters after running a 9:58.61, just slightly slower than her previous best but still fast enough to solidify her BIG EAST time.

Freshman Ena Johnson ran herself into eighth on USF's all-time chart in the 55 hurdles, as she finished third behind Hepburn by running an 8.46 in the finals after a time of 8.41 in the prelims.

Sophomore Lauren Noe posted a PR and went over the 60-foot mark in the weight throw, taking second overall with a distance of 60-1.25. By beating her PR by more than two feet, Noe moved into second on the all-time list from her previous spot of fourth. She now trails Dayana Octavien, who owns the top mark of 69-9.5. Sophomore Atasha Warren came in sixth at the meet with a heave of 52-0.

Junior MaShonda Rayner and freshman Tralanda Todd add two more BIG EAST qualifying marks in the triple jump, as they both went 37-1.75 to clear the BIG EAST distance of 37-0, finishing in a tie for fourth. The two joined senior Samantha Shade and freshman Monique Williams in qualifying in the triple jump. In the long jump, freshman Miriam Skipper posted a new PR by taking eighth at Boston with a leap of 17-4.75.

Freshman Courtney Anderson earned USF another event title in the high jump, as she cleared 5-5.75 to pace the field by two inches.

Freshman Dariel Jackson ran a time of 7.26 in the preliminaries of the 55 meters followed by a 7.30 in the finals to place third. Her time earned her a spot on the top 10 all-time list, as she now shares ninth on the list. In the 200 meters, freshman Rebecca James posted a time of 26.17 as she earned a ninth-place finish.

The distance medley squad of Chambers, Rozario, Smith and junior Meagan Smithyman came in third after running a time of 12:09.15.

Both the men's and women's track teams will be back next week as the Bulls head to one of the biggest meets on the season at the Penn State Invitational Friday and Saturday.
