STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - On the last day of competition before the BIG EAST Championships, the University of South Florida men's and women's track and field teams added several more BIG EAST qualifying marks on the second day of the Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup held at the Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track on the campus of Penn State.

Both the men and women took fourth in the meet in the team standings, with the women scoring 69 points behind Penn State, Auburn and Cornell. The men tied Auburn with 71 points, behind Penn State, Cornell and Princeton.

The men's 4x400 relay team captured the only event title for the Bulls Saturday, running a time of 3:16.40 on the legs of sophomore Reshaw Exilien and David Aristil, senior Mikail Ebanks and freshman Pascal Orelus, just ahead of second-place Penn State.

Sophomore Shaniel Chambers went more than three seconds faster than her previous best in the 800, as a time of 2:10.98 moved her all the way up to second place all-time in USF history. Chambers had held the fifth-best mark heading into the meet while finishing fourth at the meet.

Freshman Monique Williams took fourth in the triple jump, as a mark of 39-3 moved her into a tie for third all-time at USF with Irene Ledbetter and only 1.5 inches short of senior Samantha Shade's No. 2 distance. Shade took eighth in 38-6.

Junior Antillio Bastian finished fifth in the triple jump, posting a mark of 47-0.75 as he earned a BIG EAST provisional qualifying time. He was joined by sophomore Phillip Wise, who earned himself a qualifying time in the mile, running a 4:16.12 as he placed sixth overall.

Exilien and Aristil scored points for USF by finishing 4-5 in the 400 meters, with Exilien posting a 48.62, while Aristil held a time of 48.72. Orelus and senior Josh Wimbley finished ninth and 10th by running times of 49.32 and 49.36, giving them conference qualifying times.

On the women's side, a time of 57.32 - more than two seconds faster than her previous best - put freshman Rebecca James into the BIG EAST Championships. The same went for Ebanks in the 800 meters, as a 1:53.74 got him a full second and a half under the BIG EAST qualifying mark.

Freshman Courtney Anderson finished third in the high jump by leaping 5-7, tying her best mark of the year. For the men, clearing a height of 6-8.25 put senior Michael Kursteiner in sixth.

Sophomore Allie Prendergast took eighth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:49.51, as she continued to improve meet-by-meet, this time finishing eight seconds faster than her previous best.

Sophomore Atasha Warren took third in the shot put after a heave of 44-6.25 in her last attempt of the afternoon.

A time of 21.98 earned senior Greg Fontus a fourth-place finish in the 200 meters. For the women, freshman Dariel Jackson improved her BIG EAST mark by running a 25.41.

Already heading to the conference championships, sophomore Nicole Rozario cracked the five-minute barrier in the mile, as a time of 4:59.62 was good enough for eighth overall.

Senior Sean Young cleared 16-1.25 to take second in the pole vault. Senior Kayla Richmond shaved several seconds off her previous 600 meter time by running the race in 1:40.58.

The indoor season will culminate for the Bulls with the BIG EAST Indoor Championships Feb. 20-21 at the Armory Track in New York City.
