TAMPA - With freshmen
Lindsey Lamar and
Derrick Hopkins finishing 3-4 in the 60 meters at the BIG EAST Indoor Championships Sunday, ESPN blogger Brian Bennett asks fans whether the duo are the fastest players in the BIG EAST when it comes to football. We already know they are two of the fastest among the 16 BIG EAST teams in track and field.
He writes, "Does this make them the fastest players in the Big East? I would like to see a race between these guys and players like Noel Devine and Tavon Austin of West Virginia, Cam Saddler of Pitt and De'Antwan "Rocket" Williams of Rutgers (with a nickname like "Rocket," he's got to be fast)."
You can read
the full article here along with what fans had to say underneath in the comments section. But for now, watch the video below or
check it out on YouTube to watch the duo in action along with senior
Armante Marshall, who took seventh at the meet in the 60, giving the Bulls three of the top 7 finishers.
As if that weren't fast enough, the team will also add football players
Sterling Griffin and
Kayvon Webster for the outdoor season which begins March 5. Those two and Hopkins were three of the four members of the Miami Monsignor Pace 4x100 relay that won the state championship in 2009 and posted the fastest time in the nation among high schools. All four will run the various sprints of the 100, 200 and 400 meters along with the relay.
Can the Bulls make it a sweep in the relays for the outdoor season? The men's 4x400 relay of
David Aristil,
Pascal Orelus,
Mikail Ebanks and
Reshaw Exilien finished third at the indoor championships. Check out the video below or
on YouTube to watch the quartet finish first in their heat in 3:13.30, two seconds behind the eventual first-place team of Seton Hall. Exilien also finished third in the individual 400 at the championships. With Aristil, Orelus, Exilien and all four football players being either freshmen or sophomores, USF will have speed to burn for the next few years.
Mark your calendars for March 5 and 19 to catch all of the sprinters and the entire USF track and field team in action as the Bulls host a pair of track meets out at the USF Track & Field Stadium.
