Bulls Earn Second All-Academic Award by USTFCCCA

TAMPA - The University of South Florida men's cross country team earned All-Academic Team honors by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), in an announcement made by the organization Monday morning.

The award is the second for the Bulls for the 2009 season after the women's cross country team was awarded the same distinction on Friday.

The men's team was one of six BIG EAST schools to be named All-Academic, as the Bulls own a cumulative GPA of 3.10. DePaul, Rutgers, Syracuse, Cincinnati, Louisville and USF each earned All-Academic honors on both the men's and women's side. The ACC and SEC led the way with eight teams on the men's list.

For a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Championship and also have a minimum 3.00 team cumulative GPA.

A record 135 teams in Division I were named All-Academic for the 2009 season, up from 110 last year. USF was one of only two Florida schools to earn the honor along with the University of Miami.

The men placed 13th at the BIG EAST Championships in 2009 as well as 19th at the NCAA Regional at Tuscaloosa, Ala. The men also placed second at the Early Bird Classic and fourth at the Hatter Invitational during the season.

National champion Oklahoma State was named the D-I Men's Cross Country Scholar Team of the Year.
