DAYTONA BEACH/GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Junior

Wyatt Metzger each took first in the pole vault during the first day of competition Friday at the Spike's Classic at Embry-Riddle.
In addition, sophomore
David Aristil finished seventh in the 400 hurdles, but second among collegiate athletes, at the Florida Relays to highlight Friday's action for the University of South Florida track and field teams.
Aristil finished the 400 hurdles in 51.83, off his best this season but still good enough to place him second among collegiate competitors behind Johnny Dutch of South Carolina, who won the race in 49.52.
Across the state a little in Daytona Beach, junior
Stephanie Duffy cleared the 13-foot mark and won the pole vault competition at the Embry-Riddle Track by going over a height of 13-1.5 for a new outdoor PR. Junior
Dana Webb also competed Friday, as she leapt 12-1.5.
Freshman
Wyatt Metzger came in a tie for first on the men's side of the pole vault, as he posted a new personal best of 15-9. Not far behind him was freshman
Mike Vani, who leapt 15-5. Freshman
Sean Zuppke continued to improve throughout the outdoor season by going over 13-11.25 as well.
Also in the pole vault, freshman
Nicole Smith qualified for the BIG EAST Championships by clearing the exact conference mark of 11-3.75, while sophomore
Jennifer Ross went over 10-0.
In the 100 hurdles, senior
Yvana Hepburn finished 15th in 13.92, while former USF All-American Damu Cherry placed second competing unattached after running 12.66. Aristil also ran the 110 hurdles, where he posted a time of 14.56.
In the 400 hurdles on the women's side, senior
Kayla Richmond went 1:03.69, just off her PR, while freshman
Ena Johnson upped her season best to 1:05.27 in the meet.
Also running in the sprints was senior
Greg Fontus in the 100, where he had a time of 10.62, and freshman
Rebecca James, who ran the 400 for the first time since the BIG EAST Indoor Championships with a time of 58.56.
The Bulls will finish the second day of competition in the Spike's Classic tomorrow with the sprints and high jumps, as the Bulls are done competing at the Florida Relays.
