EUGENE, Ore. - Sophomore
Casey Wagner of the University of South Florida track and field team wrapped up competition for the Bulls at the NCAA Championships as she placed 21st overall in the javelin Saturday morning.
Wagner posted a toss of 148-0 on her first attempt of the day for her eventual final placement before fouling on her second two attempts.
USF's school record holder and the USA Junior National Champion was the first USF athlete ever to qualify for the NCAA Championships in the javelin.
Out of the 24 competitors who made it to the championships in the javelin, the top 9 advanced to the final. Florida's Evelien Dekkers easily took home the overall title with a throw of 193-6. Wagner finished ahead of two of the other three BIG EAST athletes who also qualified for nationals.
Wagner was the fourth Bull to compete at the meet, following a trio of other sophomores.
David Aristil placed fifth in the final of the 400 hurdles Friday to earn All-America honors.
Jared Thomas took 19th in the discus Wednesday, while
Nicole Rozario placed 22nd in the 3,000 steeplechase Thursday.
