A first-place showing in the 100 meters and a second-place finish in the long jump boosted Wise's score on the day. Wise outsprinted the field in the 100 with a time of 10.85 for a new PR, with the next closest competitor, Austin Bahner, finishing in 10.98 seconds. In the long jump, a leap of 23-1.75 put Wise in second place, with Bahner finishing first with a jump of 23-3.5.

Wise also took fourth in the high jump with a leap of 6-5, surpassing his previous best of 6-3 set last season. The USF freshman also placed seventh in the 400 with a time of 51.96 and eighth in the shot put with a heave of 41-9.75.

Wise, who won the USATF Junior Olympic Championship in the decathlon and the Nike Indoor National Championship in the pentathlon in high school, took third at last year's USA Junior Championships.

He recently completed his rookie season despite missing a good portion of the indoor and outdoor seasons due to a leg injury. Wise finished seventh in the long jump at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships and also competed in the 400 hurdles. He was also an indoor qualifier in the 60 meters, 60 hurdles and long jump.

The decathlon will finish up Thursday with the 110 hurdles, 1,500 meters, discus, pole vault and javelin. Action gets underway at 11 a.m. EST with the 110 hurdles.

In addition, sophomore David Aristil will run at 6:25 EST with the best in the country in the 400 hurdles in the USA Senior National Championships, also held at Drake Stadium.

Sponsored by USA Track & Field, the USA Junior Championships bring together the best track and field athletes ages 19 and under. The USA Junior Championships will serve as the selection meet for the 2010 IAAF World Junior Championships, July 19-25, in Moncton, Canada. The top two finishers in each event will compete in Moncton, provided that they have met the qualifying standard.
