Bulls Sign State's No. 2 Thrower

TAMPA - The University of South Florida track and field program continued to add to its 2010 recruiting class, as the Bulls recently signed the state's No. 2 thrower, Garth Jobb, to a National Letter of Intent.

Jobb was the state runner-up in both the shot put and discus at the Florida 4A championships on May 8. Hailing from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Jobb threw 55-5.5 in the shot put and 170-7 in the discus to earn second-place finishes.

He also placed first in the shot put and second in the discus at the Region 3 meet prior to the state championships. As a junior in 2009, Jobb placed second in the shot and sixth in the discus at the Florida 3A State Championships.

His mark in the discus at the state meet was an all-time best, while his distance in the shot put fell just short of his PR of 55-7.5 set at the Region 3 meet. Both of his PRs would have qualified him for the final at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships in 2010.

Jobb will add needed depth in the throwing events, as USF lost three-time NCAA East Region qualifier Tyler Perkins to graduation following the 2010 campaign. Jobb will join rising juniors Jared Thomas (discus) and Marcus Hicks (shot put and hammer) in the discus and shot put at USF.

Jobb also played inside linebacker for the St. Thomas Aquinas football team, finishing with 26 tackles, one sack, one interception and one safety his senior year.

With the signing of Jobb, USF's 2010 signing class now stands at 15. USF announced that 13 student-athletes had signed National Letters of Intent for the 2010-11 season in early May, then added one of the nation's best hurdlers in Camillo Calderon in mid-June.
