MONCTON, Canada
- Rising sophomore Neamen Wise of the University of South Florida track and field team finished the second day of the decathlon in 12th place Wednesday at the IAAF World Junior Championships at the Stade Moncton 2010 Stadium at the Université de Moncton.

Competing against the world's best junior decathletes ages 19 and under, Wise compiled 7,132 points over the two days of competition, falling short of his personal best of 7,300 points set when he won the USA Junior National Championship last month.

Following the first five events of the decathlon Tuesday, Wise sat in 11th with 3,923 points. France's Kevin Mayer won the decathlon title after the last event Wednesday at the World Junior Championships with 7,928 points.

The Championships are being held at the newly built stadium in Moncton, Canada in the province of New Brunswick, a little under 100 miles from the border with Maine.

One of two Americans to compete in the decathlon at the championships, Wise joined 2010 University of Arkansas signee Kevin Lazas in Moncton. Lazas finished 14th with 7,028 points.

Starting the day off in the 110 hurdles, Wise ran a time of 14.97 to put him in 12th overall. He then threw 130-6 feet in the discus, putting him 11th in that event.

A throw of 161-6 in the javelin put him in 13th place, while he also took 19th in the pole vault after clearing 12-5.5.

His day finished up with the 1,500 meters Wednesday evening, running a time of 5:00.45 to take 16th.

Wise qualified for the championships after capturing the title at the USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships over Lazas June 23-24 at Drake. Wise totaled 7,300 points and held off Lazas, who compiled 7,291 points. Wise finished four seconds behind Lazas in the final event, the 1,500 meters, to win the title last month.

He recently completed his rookie season despite missing a good portion of the indoor and outdoor seasons due to a leg injury. He finished seventh in the long jump at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships and also competed in the 400 hurdles. He was also an indoor qualifier in the 60 meters, 60 hurdles and long jump.
