TAMPA- Departing the USF campus at 5 a.m. on Friday Sept. 10, the USF men's and women's cross country teams begin their 2010 season at the Syracuse Invitational in New York.
USF Cross Country coaches
Dena Reif and
Warren Bye will test the men's and women's teams in competition against fellow BIG EAST Conference competitors.
“We scheduled this meet to see where we can compete against other BIG EAST teams,” said coach Reif.
Five of the runners for the men's team are returning upper classmen. Sophomore
Felix Soto, along with freshmen
Connor Bauer and
Lucas Simari, round out the rest of the team.
“The men's team only lost [
Robert Sudduth] to graduation,” said coach Reif. “We expect our freshmen on the men's team to mix into our top five.”
“The men's team looks bigger and better than last year, so we're expecting big things,” said coach Reif.
The men's team will be competing in a 6k race that begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11.
The women's team looks to be the strongest cross country team fielded by USF in a long while.
“Last year we had three solid runners in the top positions, but now we feel like we have a solid squad from one through five,” said coach Reif.
The women's team will begin competition in a 5k race at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11.
