The USF women's cross country team opened the season ranked 13th in the South Region, but due to some strong early-season performances, the Bulls have moved up to seventh in the most recent listing.
Last Year's Race
The women's squad took 28th in the top-tier gold division, while the men's team finished 14th in the middle-tier brown division at the 2009 Paul Short Invitational. Nicole Rozario posted the top time for the Bulls with a 21:24, taking 39th overall out of a total of 363 runners. Yasmin Smith and Allie Prendergast followed suit. Smith ran the race in 21:52 for 92nd place, while Prendergast finished 125th with a time of 22:11. On the men's side, Ryan Courtoy posted the top overall time for the Bulls in the 8k race, posting a mark of 26:09, good for 53rd among the division's 323 runners. He was joined by two other teammates in finishing in the top 100. Pedro Carela used a mark of 26:16 to finish as the 65th-fastest runner, while Felix Soto was close behind in 26:24 for 85th.
Last Time Out
The women's team had an impressive third-place finish with 123 points (5K), while the men's team took eighth place with 206 points (8K) at the Mountain Dew Invitational in Gainseville on Saturday, Sept. 18. Junior Nicole Rozario set a personal best with a time of 17:37.27, placing third overall. She was followed by junior Yasmin Smith, who also set a personal best with a time of 18:15.82 to finish 14th. Junior Shaniel Chambers used a personal-best 18:44.94 to place 27th, while juniors Devin Spoerle (36th, 19:01.90) and Christine Johnson (43rd, 19:15.11) rounded out the top five runners for the women's team. Senior Pedro Carela led the men's team with a personal-best 25:46.29 to place 14th. Junior Phillip Wise placed 19th with a time of 26:12.42. Lucas Simari (40th, 27:03.84), Jonathon Bing (55th, 27:33.63) and Connor Bauer (78th, 28:20.94) completed the scoring for the men's team.
