Last Year's Race
The University of South Florida cross country teams finished the 2009 season at the NCAA South Regional, with the women earning a 12th-place finish and the men tying for 19th. Nicole Rozario led the way for the women's team, finishing in 35th overall out of 170 runners with a time of 21:34.77. Rozario also finished 12 spots higher individually than in 2008. Allie Prendergast came in just under 22 minutes in the 6k race, running a 21:58.27 to finish 51st. Yasmin Smith was nine spots behind after crossing the finish line in 22:08.01. Kelly Savery closed out her collegiate cross country career with a fourth-place showing for the Bulls, her highest of the season, as she ran a time of 23:17.91 to finish 109th. Jen Wynands rounded out the top 5 for the Bulls in 114th place in 23:20.89. Devin Spoerle and Christine Johnston rounded out the competitors for the Bulls on the women's side, as Spoerle posted a time of 23:41.01, while Johnston clocked a 24:13.63.

The men earned a tie for 19th with Jacksonville State out of a total of 26 teams to equal their 2008 finish at the Championships. Phillip Wise paced the field for USF with a time of 32:37.56 in the 10k race, good for 62nd overall among a field of 173 runners. Pedro Carela used a time of 33:17.86 to earn 91st place, while Felix Soto came in 113th in 33:54.12. Lucas Simari followed suit a short time later when he cross the line in 34:03.58. Jon Bing and Ryan Courtoy finished back-to-back, as Bing posted a time of 35:14.97, and Courtoy came in less than a second later in 35:15.49. Robert Sudduth was USF's seventh competitor in the race, finishing in 35:18.78.

Last Time Out
The University of South Florida cross country teams both finished in 13th place at the BIG EAST Championships. The men were 13th of 14 teams with 397 points, while the women were 13th out of 16 teams with 348 points. Junior Phillip Wise was the top finisher for the men's team, clocking a 27.59.8 to finish in 69th place. Pedro Carela was next in 28:08.8 for 71st place, while Lucas Simari crossed the line in 83rd with a time of 28:48.9. Connor Bauer (86th, 29:24.5) and Jonathan Bing (88th, 29:47.5) rounded out the scoring for the Bulls. One week after finishing her first full race of the season, Allie Prendergast led the women's team with a 54th-place finish in 23:02.1. She was followed by Yasmin Smith, who crossed the line in 23:21.8 for 60th. Nicole Rozario, who is still battling some nagging injuries, placed 69th in 23:39.8, while Shaniel Chambers (82nd, 24:16.8) and Devin Spoerle (83rd, 24:16.8) filled in the top five for the women.

NCAA Experience
Five members of USF's women's team competed at the 2009 NCAA South Regional, while four of the men's team participated. Junior Nicole Rozario was USF's top finisher last season, taking 35th place. In addition to Rozario, Allie Prendergast and Yasmin Smith also scored for USF at last year's regional meet, while Devin Spoerle and Christine Johnston placed sixth and seventh for the team. Rozario also led the way in 2008 with a 47th-place finish, followed by Spoerle in 70th. Johnston scored for the Bulls in the '08 regional as did Smith, while Prendergast finished sixth for the Bulls. On the men's side, Phillip Wise was USF's top finisher in 2009, placing 62nd, while Pedro Carela, Lucas Simari  and Jon Bing scored for the Bulls. In 2008, Carela led the way for USF, while Simari and Bing finished in the top five.

USF at the NCAA South Regional
The women's team has competed at the NCAA South Regional in 12 of the last 13 seasons. They've placed in the Top Five six times and in the Top 10 eight times. The Bulls won the South Regional in 1999 and 2000 and finished as the runner-up in 1998 and 2001. The women's team is coming off a 12th-place finish last season. The men's team has also competed at 12 of the last 13 regional meets. USF has posted a runner-up finish (2000) and three third-place finishes (1997, '98 and '99) during that span. Last year, the men's team finished 19th.
