In Her Own Words: Alexa Cruz - From Sneakers To Heels

Hello again everyone! It’s been a while, but I’ve been so busy with school and practice(you know how stressful and hectic that can be) so I haven’t been able to write. Don’t worry because I’m back again and I’ve got so much to talk about!

Let’s start with talking about the Flrunners Invitational Race Of Champions that took place on September 28th, which so happened to be the day of Homecoming. Anyways, that race was so awesome and fun to run. There was some major competition from all around the state there. It was great. All the races were filled with great runners. Going into the race I was a little nervous, but once I got to the starting line, all the nerves turned into the anxiousness to PR. During the race I felt pretty good and my main focus was to go out for a PR and have fun. At the end I was battling it out with Emily Edward for second place, but she beat me out with her amazing kick! Hats off to her, to Karen Xiang for winning the race, and to all the other runners who competed. I did end up with a PR and I also had a great time running with all those girls. Some of my teammates even got some of their best times, so I was really excited about that. Overall the experience was motivating and fun; it even got me pumped up for Pre-States this weekend. Once again, I’d like to give a shoutout to the STA boys varsity team that finished 3rd in the Boys Race of Champions!

As I said earlier, my school’s Homecoming just so happened to be on the same day as the race. It was a mission to get to Ft.Lauderdale from Titusville with just enough time to get ready and dolled up, but it managed to happen. I had a great time at my dance and so did most of my other teammates who went as well. Even though my calves were a little sore, I still danced the night away, wore my very high-heels, and rocked my famous tan lines!

Now to talk about one more thing, Pre-States. Many runners have been anticipating it since the start of the season. This is the meet where everyone gets to run on the state course against major competitors from their own division and other divisions too. My team and I can’t wait for the meet and are all hoping to bring back some PRs. I’m really excited and can’t wait to see how it goes! The weather has been real nice and cool in Tallahassee, so hopefully it stays that way for our races. Well, I hope to see many of you at the meet or if not, hear about the many other meets that are taking place. Good Luck to everyone, keep running hard, and never give up! Happy running!
