Salute To Seniors: Jenycha Rivera - Gateway High School

The 2015-2016 school year has provided some great highlights in both cross country and track across the Sunshine State. In the coming weeks many of our seniors will head out to start their college careers both athletically and academically. We wanted to salute them one more time in this special feature and say thank you for your support over the years.

Flrunners.com: What was your most memorable race/moment?

Jenycha Rivera: My most memorable races were my last Orange Belt Conference meet when I won Orange Belt Conference champ for the 800 and my last regional track meet when I set a new school record for the 1600.

FLR: Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

JR: I did not run all four years of high school, but the two years I did run my greatest competition was my teammate Chelsea who was always right next to me in practice and in meets.

FLR: What was your greatest accomplishment?

JR: My greatest accomplishment was qualifying for the cross country state meet my second and final year running it in high school.

FLR: If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

JR: If I could do it all over again I would definitely start my freshman year doing both cross country and track.

FLR: What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

JR: I think the most difficult obstacle I had to overcome was going from being a sprinter (which I wasn't very good at), to being a distance and mid-distance runner.

FLR: What will you miss the most?

JR: I will miss my coaches and teammates the most. They made every meet and almost every practice fun while still working hard.

FLR: What advice you would give to younger athletes?

JR: Work hard, be committed, and focus on what's important.

FLR: What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?

JR: Each coach that I got to work with over my high school running career definitely took part in making me the student athlete that I am today. They were all great motivators and knew exactly how to push me to my greatest potential.

FLR: What are your college plans?

JR: I have committed to Southeastern University for cross country and will be majoring in Criminal Justice beginning this fall.
