It has rained all night and is really muddy. Although the rain held off early, it started to pour during the girls seeded race. In that race defending national champion Ashley Brasovan fell down and got banged up pretty good. She popped back up with bloody knees and finished in fourth to qualify. Kayla Hale qualified for her third Footlocker Nationals with 7th place. Kathy Kroeger of Tennessee was the winner again this year.
No Florida boys qualify. Matt Mizereck was just out of it and is unofficially 11th, meaning if anyone can't make it he's the alternate.

Girls Seeded
It wasn't the kind of day we had last year, which saw four girls from our fine state qualify, but it was certainly a good day for Florida. Defending national champ Ashley Brasovan will head back to San Diego for the second time, and Kayla Hale will make her third trip in a row!
The rain soaked the course throughout the early AM hours and then started to pour again as the Girls Seeded race started. The mud and water made a notoriously fast course not quite so much. The slush fest made footing uneasy and turned the race into a real battle with lots of contact, spills, and girls getting spiked.
Ashley Brasovan was near the front with Kathy Kroeger of Tennessee. Brasovan took a spill and was banged up pretty good. Despite coming up with legs bleeding, she managed to finish in fourth place securing a return trip to the big dance with a time of 17:20. Former national champ Kathy Kroeger won the race. Kayla Hale found herself in good position and held on for sixth place and will punch her ticket again as well. Her time was 17:33, a season best for the senior.
In the state team standings Florida finished in second place with 82 points, behind Texas which scored just 34 and beating out Virginia who had 84.
Juliana Stern was the next Florida finisher with a solid time of 17:53 in 17th place. Missing from the results is her teammate Ashley Shiver, who after last week many thought might have an outside chance of qualifying.

Boys Seeded
Unfortunately, while finishing a very respectable third place in state team scoring, no Florida boys placed in the top ten meaning most likely there will be no boys representing the Sunshine State at Footlocker Nationals in San Diego. Virginia and Texas dominated scoring 36 and 49 points, with Florida in third with 94 just ahead of Tennessee with 95 points.
Matt Mizereck was the top Florida finisher. With a late race surge he passed a number of people, but came up just short of that covetted top ten. He finished in 11th and will be the alternate in case anyone cannot make the San Diego trip. He was disappointed after the race, feeling he left too much on the course and had some left. His time was 15:23 on the normally fast but today very wet and muddy course.
Matt's teammate Will Stanford was just a couple places back in 15:26. Continuing an impressive Florida pack were Armando Del Valle (16th, 15:27) and Erick Montoya (21st 15:45). Michael Wallce did not have the day he wanted or many were expecting. He was back in 37th with 15:46--the sixth Floridian.
