Independent Schools Girls - Team Breakdown

After a narrow defeat in 2015, the Germantown Academy girls took home the top spot in the Independent Schools Championship in 2016. GA left no doubt about it, winning by 48 points. The champs lose '16 team leader Abbe Goldstein to graduation, but return its next six runners. That group of returners---led by Gianna Murgia, Isabelle Goldstein, Jackie DeRusso, and Kelsey O'Hara---will look to return to the winner's circle at Belmont Plateau.

But who can challenge GA this season?

Friends' Central was second to Germantown Academy last season, but did so without Gabrielle Wilkinson in the lineup at states. Although it loses Emily Burd (third in 2016), FCS should still be in the mix with Wilkinson back, along with Nadia Taranta and Rose McDonnell.

Another team to look out for is Academy of Notre Dame. Katie Lennon and Lindsey Smith will be two of the team leaders as Notre Dame will try and challenge for the title. Epsicopal Academy, Agnes Irwin, and Penn Charter are among the schools that will look to add some depth to cotend this fall for the crown.
