Bolles Duo Mone't Bowen, Nia Guine-Herndon Head Over Heels For Howard University

Mone't Bowen (Senior - Bolles)

What was the recruiting process like for you?

I really enjoyed the recruitment process. My favorite thing about being recruited was being able to travel to all of the different cities. It was cool being able to see how colleges differ from place to place.

Where all did you visit/consider?

I considered Jacksonville University, Harvard, Georgetown, Howard, University of Florida, University of Notre Dame, James Madison University, Kennesaw State University, and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

You visited Howard during their Homecoming. What was your visit like?

That was definitely my favorite visit. I got to watch practice, go to the football game, and I also went to Yardfest. We accomplished a lot within the 2 days so it was really busy. I feel like I got the true experience of what it is like to be a Howard student-athlete at Howard.

What were the key factors that sold you on Howard?

I really like the culture of the school. I felt at home the minute I got on campus. Also, the location is perfect. Being that Howard is in Washington D.C., I would have a plethora of internships to choose from for my major (Broadcast Journalism). I also like the direction that the program is headed under the new coaching staff.

How much of a relief is it to have it done now so you can focus on your senior season?

It's a big relief. I already stress myself out enough during the season so it's good to know I can just focus on running fast, staying healthy, and making good grades.

What are your goals over the season?

I just want to help my team win as much as possible. It'd be great to finish my last year of high school track with another team title. Winning state in both hurdles would be icing on the cake.

What will you miss the most once you leave High School?

I'm really going to miss all the people back home. I've known my best friends for a very long time so it will be tough not being in the same city as them. I'm also going to miss my parents simply because they've been by side all of my life. It's going to be hard not being able to see them every day.

What are you looking forward to the most about competing at Howard?

I'm looking forward to watching the team grow into a powerhouse program. The program is definitely on the come up and I'm happy that I get to be a part of the journey.

How do you feel about having your teammate Nia with you at Howard? You guys have been together for a long time correct?

I've known Nia since the 6th grade so we have been friends for a long time. I really like the fact that we are both going to Howard because I feel like we work so well together. She helps me with my weaknesses and I help her with hers.

What do you want people to remember/say about Monét Bowen?

I want to be remembered as a person who likes to be challenged. Whether it's in the classroom, on the track, or life period. Only good things can come from being challenged and I like taking advantage of every opportunity I have to get better.
