Nia Guine-Herndon (Bolles - Senior)
What was the recruiting process like for you?
The recruiting process was a little stressful but overall fun for me. I was stressed at first on deciding what school would be the best fit for me but I had fun going on visits and talking to college coaches.
Where all did you consider?
I considered University of Richmond, North Carolina Central University, Clemson University, Howard, University of Alabama in Huntsville, and Louisiana State University.
You visited Howard during their Homecoming. What was your visit like?
My visit was alot of fun. I had a great time and got to see what it was like to be a student athlete at Howard. Since it was homecoming there was alot going on but it was great to see the football game, Yardfest, and tour the school as well. This was by far one of the best visits I have been on.
What were the key factors that sold you on Howard?
Definitely the coaches and the environment sold me on Howard. Everyone at the school welcomed me with open arms and I can't wait to be apart of the nursing program because it is one of the top programs in the country.
How much of a relief is it to have it done now so you can focus on your senior season?
It is such a relief to be done with the recruiting process. I had fun but now that it's out the way I can focus on making my last high school season the best one.
What are your goals over the season?
My goals for the season are to jump at least 40 ft in triple jump and run low 14s in the 100 hurdles. I also want to do the best I can to help my team win our third state championship in a row.
What will you miss the most once you leave High School?
I will miss my friends, family, and coaches the most. Everyone has supported me since I started track in 9th grade and I don't know what I would do without them.
What are you looking forward to the most about competing at Howard?
I am looking forward to competing at the next level. I always like a challenge and I know the MEAC conference will push me and help me become a better athlete.
How do you feel about having your teammate Mone't with you at Howard? You guys have been together for a long time correct?
I'm excited to have Monét with me at Howard. We have known each other since 6th grade and we bond together really well. We always support each other on and off the track and I can't wait for her to be my teammate and bestfriend for 4 more years.
What do you want people to remember/say about Nia Guine-Herndon?
I want people to remember me as the girl who never gave up when I was faced with a challenge. Alot of people told me that since I was 5'3 that I couldn't do hurdles or triple jump and should just stick to short sprinting but I did not let that stop me. I've overcome injuries and setbacks but those things did not stop me from accomplishing my goals.
