What Would You Do? Runner Collapses: Finish The Race Or Seek Medical Attention? Sep 25, 2016

It's a situation no athlete or coach wants to be involved in. Running a 5k is hard enough, but add in the sweltering Florida heat and humidity, and it can be flat out dangerous. I've witnessed numerous distance runners fall victim to dehydration, fatigue, and collapse at various points in the course, including seconds away from the finish. That very instance happened at the UF Mt. Dew Invitational in the boy's seeded race when hometown Buchholz senior Calum McFetridge took the lead after the two mile mark and says he felt decent before everything came tumbling down.

The UF Mt. Dew Invitational has been one of the premier meets in the state of Florida every single year so it's no wonder a ton of great performances have come from this event. Only two other girls Alexa Cruz in 2014 and Kacy Smith in 2010 have broke 18 minutes. On the boys side Armando DelValle is ranked number one with his 15:18.69 in 2010, but who could forget the battle between Nick Diaz and Steven Cross (pictured above) in 2014 when they crossed the line in 15:21.12 and 15:21.37. We take a look at the top 500 times over the las decade.
